Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Those jolly chaps at Raspberry Software have been in touch to let me know that they have just released the full version of their TrueConnection software, the Technical Preview of which was very well received on MoDaCo. I've included their message below, why not head along to Raspberry Software and check it out! ;) P True Connect Version 1.0 now released! Get true control of your Smartphone using the PC mouse/keyboard simply by moving the mouse cursor off the PC monitor onto the connected Smartphone screen. Following on from the successful Technical Preview, the much awaited final version of True Connect is available to download. The product may be tried for 14 days free of charge. Benefits: • Creates a natural extension of your PC allowing the user to control and view Smartphone applications/data using the PC mouse and keyboard. • Makes the Smartphone more accessible as the need to enter text via the 12 button keypad is eradicated. • No need to create cryptic SMS messages as messages can be created in full using the keyboard. • Directly share information between the Smartphone and PC or between Smartphone applications via Cut/Copy/Paste. • Look up Contacts and make hands-free calls without the need to pick up the Smartphone. • Thought processes are not disturbed as appointment reminders on the Smartphone can be dismissed using the mouse. • Use the Smartphone as a mini PC by executing and controlling applications on your Smartphone. For example display your favourite personal web page on your Smartphone, avoiding the need to run this application on the PC. • No loss of PC screen real estate - there are a number of phone applications showing an emulation of the Smartphone on the PC screen. True Connect uniquely allows the user to control the Smartphone directly using the PC mouse and keyboard as if it were a second monitor attached to the PC. Features: • Full operation of the PC mouse and keyboard on the Smartphone. • Ability to map PC keys to Smartphone buttons to further enhance ease of use. • Cut/Copy/Paste between PC and Smartphone and between Smartphone applications. • Relative location of Smartphone to PC monitor is configurable. (This configuration sets where the mouse pointer is dragged off the monitor and onto the Smartphone to initiate focus.) • Plug-and-play support. Connect any Smartphone to a PC running True Connect, no additional installation necessary. • Accented characters supported via PC keyboard. Who will use True Connect? All Smartphone users who regularly connect their Smartphone to their PC. True Connect will appeal to the business and consumer communities. Some Technical Details: True Connect uses the ActiveSync connection to send mouse and keyboard events to the Smartphone. True Connect uses a PC Client which runs at start-up. This PC Client will dynamically install the True Connect driver onto the Smartphone. The PC client and Smartphone driver manage the mouse and keyboard events on the Smartphone. The process of dragging the mouse pointer off the edge of the monitor onto the Smartphone triggers the focus to switch from the PC to the Smartphone therefore directing all keyboard and mouse event to the Smartphone rather than the device. The PC focus is regained by simply dragging the pointer back onto the PC monitor. Localization: English (Other languages will be supported based on demand). Devices Supported: Microsoft Windows based Smartphones. Developed using SPV C600, SPV C550, SPV C500 & SPV E200. PocketPC and Windows Mobile 5 PDA/Smartphone hybrids will be supported shortly in True connect V1.1. For more information visit www.raspberrysoftware.com or contact [email protected] Operating Systems: Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5 Updates since Technical Preview: • Support for accented characters • Pickup/Hangup added to Right-Click-HOLD Navigation Buttons • Orange SPV C600 fully supported • Ability to use the product offline. • Connection reliability improved. • Bug fixes. Guest James Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 I have got to say this is one of the best programs ever for my C550 (when i had it) i am really missing it now i have moved to PPC ;) but they do have that version in development, so not long to wait.
Guest mini_man Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 seriously what are the differences between that and the version before this (the free one) only thing i noticed was that it wouldnt run on windows me *grr* but now it will at the cost of 17.99 I might consider this as it is truly incredible software and is amazing with a dock. Luckily i still have the previous version which works with 2000/XP (free!!) and i was thinkin of upgrading the pc my room soon anyway.

We might have a bug or two to fix for V1.1, who knows... The upgrade to V1.1 from the current released V1.0 will be free. We decided to ship without PPC (and PDA phone) support since we had been focusing on Smartphone, and there is a bit left to do to get PPC support going. We'll add this in to V1.1, along with any serious bugs users of V1.0 find. Thanks to everyone who tried out the Tech Preview version, and especially to those that gave feedback. Pete

Just in case, I feel I should point out that the Tech Preview was free, but will expire on 31st Jan. Like it says on the first page of the options dialogs. I'm hoping this doesn't come as a surprise to anyone! Pete
