Universal or Wizard?

ok, my current contract with orange runs out in 3 weeks, have been contemplating my next device (Currently have a C500).

Read up lots about the HTC Universal and wizard and STILL cannot decide.

I like the larger screen res and power of the universal, but prefer the smaller size of the wizard (If only the wizard had VGA screen that would be a killer).

I'm looking at either O2's exec/XDA Mini S or T-Mobiles offerings.

I don't use the phone much, just love gadgets so going for just a minimal contract.

Since I'm a gadget freak, I'm leaning more towards the universal, looks like one hell of a sexy machine! - but the size!!!

If you want a true power (and feature) packed Pocket PC Phone then definately get the Universal. Wifi, fast processor, VGA screen. There's not a whole lot missing!

On the other hand, seeing how you're going for a minimal contract and want a smaller device you may have to settle for the Wizard as the Universal is VERY expensive on lower tariffs.

The Universal is the bees knees and 3G is a pleasure to use on the large, VGA screen but data costs and the initial cost of the device might put you off.

PS neither the wizard nor the universal are smartphones, both are PPCs

I faced this decision as well, the Exec really wowed me but in the end I didn't think I could use it on a day to day basis because of its massive size and weight, plus I have an X50V which I can leave at home when I just need a phone, and not the bulk. Initially I dismissed the Wizard because of its slow processor and mini SD but after O2 dropped it to 50 quid and I like the size/weight after trying one in store I've ordered a wizard, it seems a good P900 replacement. Time will tell though.

Thanks. What I will do is go in store and check the demo models out since I've only seen the two devices online in pictures.

Hopefully I can then come to the conlusion about whether the exec is too big or not.

I decided to go with the 02 exec. The Other Half just rang to say it's been delivered, so can't wait to get home from work now and check the baby out.

damn, I'll have to charge it up first, so can't play with it till tomorrow!

I was in a similar position to you, and went for the Wizard, just because it was smaller and cheaper. I now wish I'd thought about it a bit longer, because in terms of cool stuff, the Universal wins hands down. I want VGA. I want more memory (something on this Wizard has a memory leak, and it needs to be reset every now and again to get it back). I want 3G (no-one in the UK supports Edge). I want the protecting properties of the spin around screen.

The Wizard is a good phone for people who want something more useful than a normal phone. The Universal is a good phone for people who want something more useful than a normal Pocket PC phone.
