What does the symbol that i have circled mean? it has just recently appeared. u can find a picture attatched.

Not sure what it means, but it appears on my screen whenever I'm using the Microsoft Powertoy to view my phone's screen on the PC (ActiveSync Remote Display to give it it's full name). Once the display is closed, or Activesync disconnects the symbol vanishes.

Is it the same for you, or is the symbol still there when the phone's disconnected from everything?

yer i think you might be right it was there when i was using it and when i disconnected me phone it was still there for about 3 mins then it vanished.

Try closing the window on the PC before you unplug the phone - seems to get rid of the icon straight away then.
