Activesync 4.1 using USB knocks out my wifi LAN

I've just got my new C600 and I've found that on a clean install of Activesync 4.1 whenever I connect the phone via USB to my laptop, the connection is established and then my wireless LAN connection (Intel 2200BG using the latest drivers) drops.

During the time that my phone is connected to activesync my wireless LAN goes through a cycle of connecting the immediatly disconnecting.

I found that even after disconnecting the phone, the wlan does not re-establish until after a reboot.

I've found that if I downgrade my wlan drivers to the v8.x rather than v9.x this problem doesn't occur, but unfortunatley the v8.x drivers cause other system issues.

I've tried disabling the Windows Firewall and also disabling my Antivirus - neither made a difference.

In a fit of desperation I actually rebuilt my laptop (a completly clean Windows XP Home SP2 build) and I found that this exhibits the same behaviour.

Has anyone found the same issue? if so are there any workarounds? is it me?? ;)

Hi

What you describe is a "known" issue with Activesync v4.x. There are several "workarounds" indicated on the MSFT web site - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/hel...nc/default.mspx.

I've had the same problem on two separate machines. So far I haven't experiences the dropping thoughput on my WiFi network though. I gave up on using the vendor provided WiFi manager and usng the Windows included version which seems to reduce the problem somewhat. The problem is even worse if you happen to connect via VPNs.

Apparently Activesync v4.x now uses TCP/IP and when connected actually creates a "new" and separate LAN connection complete with DHCP provided IP address. I have to hope that MSFT realise that whilst the logic of the idea might be a good one the implementation - which breaks all other connections - is poor and accordingly release a patch. I think the problem is also built into the C600 installation of Activesync too.

Hope that helps a little.

Hi

Thanks for replying!

I'd taken a look throught the Microsoft Activesync Troubleshooting guide as it had been mentioned in a previous post, it was helpful but didn't make any difference.

But I think I've now resolved it...

I stopped using WPA encryption on my Wireless LAN - I've changed to using WEP instead and since I've done this I've noticed two benefits:

1) Activesync never drops my Wifi connection

2) My signal strength is stronger and more consistant

It's a shame because WPA should be more secure than WEP but if it's going to cause me a problem then I'm happy to drop it.

I hope this helps anyone else who might be experiencing similar issues
