Guest JMBrown32 Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Sadly, my screen on my Cingular 2125 got scratched up pretty bad a few days ago. I know this really isn't too big of a deal, however, I love this phone and seeing the scratches really bothers me? Does anyone know if HTC (America?) does LCD replacements, and if so, at what price? Thank you

Guest MitchellO Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 You don't need a new screen, just a new cover. I have read about HTC fixing cases that have been damaged or scratched. I'm not sure who you call, but I believe you have to send it to somewhere in Europe. Can I suggest a screen protector for when you get it fixed. I just got a screen protector for my iPod (a good EXIM one) and it came with a protector for both the back and front of the iPod. I didn't want the back one, so I cut it down to size and it makes a perfect protector for my SP5. You can't even see it.
Guest JMBrown32 Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Thank you. Does anyone know the number I have to call? Also, ironically, my screen protector just arrived today. Shipping took a little longer than expected  But again, if anyone has that number, please share!

If I am not mistaken LCD screen replacement (part+labor) cost approx $130 at PPCtechs. Good Luck. Edited January 19, 2006 by PPCPassion

Guest MitchellO Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=117206 Have a look at this thread. The poster was able to call HTC and they replaced the front cover on his phone. Might be worth a look.
Guest PPCPassion Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 I appreciate the help, but my phone is a Tornado (faraday), not a typhoon. The phone number anyone? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I understand you have Tornado. Link was for the ref purposes only. BTW, they both have the same screen size as well as the resolution. Good Luck with contacting HTC.

Good Luck. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This won't help, not only because it is for the wrong phone, but it replaces the LCD, not the cover which is scratched. From the PPCTech website: If the outer plastic is cracked, we do not have the replacement part.
Guest JMBrown32 Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 I understand you have Tornado. Link was for the ref purposes only. BTW, they both have the same screen size as well as the resolution. Good Luck with contacting HTC. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is quite incorrect, while they both supposedly have a 2.2 inch screen, I have both and I measured and they are off by a few mm. Also, the tornado is QVGA while the typhoon is not. Anyways, i'll try calling that number, but as I live in America, I'm not sure if I can. Anyways, I thank any of you that have tried to help. Not really sure what to do at this point.
Guest MitchellO Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Its definately worth a try. Would seem people have been successful calling HTC. The price that was quoted in the other thread doesn't seem toooo bad. Would be great if you could just swap the cover off for a new one like the old Nokias ;)
Guest JMBrown32 Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 This won't help, not only because it is for the wrong phone, but it replaces the LCD, not the cover which is scratched. From the PPCTech website: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know that none of you (assuming you arent from the US, as it would appear most of the users here aren't) have used or likely seen a 2125, however I imagine you may have seen the c600, so do you think this is the plastic over the screen? I wasnt sure that the front cover had plastic like that, I thought there was just a hole and that the lcd was unprotected. If its just the front cover of the phone that is scratched, that helps a lot! P.S. sorry for the double post.

I have gotten lot of work dome including upgrading memory on my HP4700 and some repairs not even listed on their site. I was just trying to help you locate an alternate repair facility. I am sure someone will find the corect ph#. Since you mentioned Cingular 2215, it may not be bad idea to find out who they are contracted with for repairs?
Guest MitchellO Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 There is a plastic cover over the LCD. If there wasn't, the LCD wouldn't last a day in a pocket. What you need is a replacement of the front cover, not the LCD.
Guest JMBrown32 Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 PPCPassion, I appologize, that is entirely my fault, I do thank you for your help though. I've tried Cingular and I will continue to try, but with them, you just need to get lucky to talk to someone who knows what they are talking about. One guy at the store actually told me my phone was not a phone that Cingular sold...haha! MitchellO, thank you as well, you have been a huge help. I would have been quite upset to order a $150 LCD to find i didn't need it. Anyways, I will continue trying to contact HTC America, HTC (the one in Europe) and Cingular. If anyone thinks of anything else, please let me know. Thanks to all who helped.
Guest MitchellO Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Good luck with it. Let us know how you go.
Guest JMBrown32 Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Ok, so yet another question: Does anyone know the e-mail address for HTC Europe support. The HTC America one is more or less useless and when calling them you need to know the name or extension of the person you are trying to contact so it's obviously not there for support purposes. And also, I can't call the HTC Europe number from my phone cause its international. So i guess i must e-mail them
Guest PPCPassion Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 JMBROWN32, I feel for you man. I am still trying to find the HTC contact info. However, during the process, I came across a review of LCD scratch remover. People claim that it works to remove approx 60-70% of the scratches. I know this is not what you need but thought it may be of some interest to you until you find HTC info. Here is the link: http://store.yahoo.com/exchangecellular/dilcdscre.html
Guest Ingvarr Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) HTC is Original Device Manufacturer, this is not retailer and it won't have a customer support as it neither works with customers nor it sells devices to people - it works only with big retail companies/operators. You should obtain support from company that sold you phone, and obviously this will be not HTC. Edited January 19, 2006 by Ingvarr

When the page loads, click on products which will take you to inquiry email address. Good Luck! http://www.htc.com.tw/company/index.html Edited January 19, 2006 by PPCPassion
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 HTC is Original Device Manufacturer, this is not retailer and it won't have a customer support as it neither works with customers nor it sells devices to people - it works only with big retail companies/operators. You should obtain support from company that sold you phone, and obviously this will be not HTC. HTC DO support phones - have you tried their customer support or are you just stating what you *think* to be the case? Maybe HTC US don't support their products but you're making a fairly sweeping generalisation with your statement. I have found HTCEurope to be extremely helpful. They DO work with customers as with devices sold via Tmobile or Orange within the UK you can obtain warranty service directly. They will do out-of-warranty repairs if they can obtain the parts even if the unit is badged another brand, but you need to speak to someone to arrange this - you can't book it in via htceurope.com. To O.P - try top get hold of a store dummy and swop the front plastic. You don't have to void your warranty. Richard
Guest Ingvarr Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Maybe HTC Europe made support contract with T-Mobile & Orange. I know for sure that they used to direct people to "where you bought" it.
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Maybe HTC Europe made support contract with T-Mobile & Orange. I know for sure that they used to direct people to "where you bought" it. A cosmetic screen plastic repair is not a support / warranty issue so having a support contract with a network or re-badger is of no relevance. Since I have had contact with HTC ( and I used to work on the Wallaby project at BTCellnet) they have always had a helpful support presence in the UK, and with the new european headquarters in Slough opening soon this will onyl be strengthened. Who/when did they direct you to 'where you bought it' and what brand device was it? If it is a warrantable repair and they do not act as authorised agents for that brand then they should direct you to the manufacturer's own support ( eg o2 service for XDA, SBE Limited for i-mate etc) as getting HTCEurope to fix the device will cost you money! If it's out of warranty I've always found them helpful, unlike some service agents. Richard
Guest JMBrown32 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Well, after failing to contact HTC (America or otherwise) I ordered some displex and had it overnighted to me. After about an hour of scrubbing my display, Im pleased to say its back to near new quality. With the display on, you can't tell it was ever even scratched though when the phone off the screen looks a little different. It almost appears as if this stuff just stripped a layer off the plastic. In any event it looks great and I've put on the screen protector to help prevent this from happening again. Thanks to those who helped...it was much appreciated
Guest MitchellO Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Congrats on finding a fairly cheap, easy and within warranty bounds solution!
