Guest MARKUKCOUK Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 I have got a ROM of Windows Mobile 5.0 for HP IPAQ's SX2200 series. I have a RX3715. Now I don't mind taking risk or anything, so is there any chance I can get this ROM onto it (at the moment it just says wrong model, like the smartphones do). I know you can get past this on smartphones... can you do this with PDAs? Any help appreciated.

Either I'm talking so much shite no one can be bothered to tell me, or you're all lazy feckers. I suspect the former, but could someone put me out of my misery please? ;)
Guest Pondrew Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Well, the official Modaco line is not to install roms not intended for your device (even when they're the same model, ie installing the XDA Exec rom on the MDA Pro) but what you're talking about sounds far more difficult anyway. Nothing I can say would help...

I'm not against installing dodgy roms (hell ive done it enough on smartphones) but by the sound of it it would be almost impossible anyway. thanks for clearing it up ;)
Guest Tech Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 ask your operator if they gave it to you (unlikely) or they would do it
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 HP do offer certain devices an upgrade for WM5 but it would not be a good idea to run a rom intended for a different device. There will be hardware differences that could be fatal to your device.

There will be hardware differences that could be fatal to your device. I can't remember the URL off hand but there are a couple of upgrades out there officially at the moment but they usually only get released for a limited time - to reward the early adopters, and once they stop selling them your only choice is to get an illegal copy off a P2P or ebay. As a general rule, the upgrades cover a 'family' of ipaqs ( eg the 5XXX range including the 5450, 5550, 5555 ) as there are only minor CPU clock differences. If your 2 devices have the same class of CPU and similar RAM / features ,they may work. Bear in mind the hacked smartphone roms which are very common and easy to do are only going onto the same family of phone and you can't hack cross-platform very easily. Have you thought of joing / asking the official ipaq developer program? ask your operator if they gave it to you (unlikely) or they would do it These aren't phones or supplied by phone companies and as such there is no 'operator' for him to ask, only HP.
