Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Welcome to my 'Random Cool Gadget of the Day'. OK, so it's not a real feature but hey ;) What do you carry around on your keyring? I carry round a Victorinx RetroAlox 1GB USB Penknife (see here for details), and it's fantastic, I would be lost without it. Just recently tho, my keyring gained a second indispensable gadget... the Mini 5 pin USB keychain from Brando: What does it do? It simply goes on your keychain, and means wherever you are, you can charge up your Mini USB enabled device from a PC without needing to take any cables with you... brilliant! I don't always have a charger with me, but I always have my phone and my keys and am invariably near a computer... so this is a life saver. Best of all, it's only $5 including delivery from this page! Now if only they did a Samsung i300 version... :D P
Guest mini_man Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 wow thats brill and at an incredible price too! only worry is, if the pc you using only has a hub sticking out the pc and not on the desk or on a flat surface you will have your smartphone floating in midair with a bending usb port which will probably ruin the usb sockets in pc and phone. Personally if im putting things on my phone at my mates house i wont really want to be standing there holding it up or balancing it on some books. what do you guys think?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 That is true, a book or similar always helps tho, lol. I've found lots of situations it's useful (plugging into laptops, vertically in my USB hub etc) P
Guest mini_man Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 yep tht is true although installing activesync to charge isnt exactly a quick method *sigh* if only windows made the smartphone usable as a removable drive I think ill buy this as its sooo cheap and sooo small really useful

I know the c500 needs activesync but what about c550, 600? Anyone tried? ..cant install anything on work laptop, you see (grr!)

Or wear them as belts. Handy!
Guest mini_man Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 the c550 definetly doesnt annoyingly it will just appear on windows saying usb device. and then nothing happens untill active sync's installed

Guest nickcornaglia Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Does this sync the phone as well??!!! If so I'll get one right away! Still valuable as a charge only....but if it sync'd to....that would be great.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 AFter reading....it appears that it does. NICE!
Guest nickcornaglia Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 I use a Belkin 7 port usb hub. It has two ports on top of the device. If this thing is strong enough....I may be able to use my hub as a cradle as well! ;)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 That's the exact hub I use encece, and yes, it syncs too ;) P
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Oh and I do have it just sticking upwards ;) P
Guest MitchellO Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 If there was a version of CardExport (mass storage driver for WM5 devices) for WM5 smartphone then I would order one right now!
Guest deBruineBeren Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Why is it so difficult for people to make good products ? All they would had to do is ad a little switch that connects and disconnects pin 4 and 5 of the min USB connector. And everybody would be happy, sync and charge with ActiveSync or just charge without ActiveSync. #-o ](*,)
Guest sandburn Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 If there was a version of CardExport (mass storage driver for WM5 devices) for WM5 smartphone then I would order one right now! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thats exactly what I thought when I saw this thing! Thought it might have 1GB of mass storage that you could access from a PC or a Smartphone... ...maybe even charge and activesync too??
Guest w411y Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) On my keyring would be the MobyMemory card reader that acts as a USB stick but it doesnt have anything to stick it on a key ring ;) This charger/syncer could prove handy though Im debating wether to get one or not Edited January 19, 2006 by w411y
