Guest scsi Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) I downloaded the settings from the i-mate homepage, and everything looks fine on my SP5. When I check the settings, everything is there, the gateway, proxy, etc... But when I try to access internet, I just get a timeout, saying that the service is unavailible. But, I can access the O2 page (http://pda.o2.co.uk/). This leads me to believe that the service somehow must be activated, but I can't find any information about this on the O2 homepage. Does anyone have O2 Pay&Go, and actually got GPRS working? Edited January 19, 2006 by scsi
Guest Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 I didn't think you could access the internet via GPRS on O2 PAYG. Thought it was WAP access only unless you had a contract. I could be wrong though. HTH.

Thought it was WAP access only unless you had a contract.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm really hoping that you are wrong, since the main reason I bought a smartphone was GPRS access, internet and email. Also, O2 say that pay&go customers get 1MB/month free. Sounds like you have the proxy connection type set to WAP and not http. Just a thought? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was set to WAP, but when I changed it to HTTP, it made no difference. ;) Edit: I sent O2 a mail about this. I realize that they can't help me with the SP5 settings, but they should at least be able to say if GPRS is possible or not. (I don't know how long I'll stay in the UK, so a contact is not an option, since the minimum amount of time is 12 months here) Edited January 19, 2006 by scsi
Guest martin Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 On O2 UK you need Proxy=193.113.200.195:8080, Type=HTTP to access HTML pages and Proxy=193.113.200.195:9201, TYPE=WAP to access WML pages. The 'service is unavailable' error could be a problem with the O2 network and not the settings.

I know o2 in the past have had problem connecting using wap/gprs. This is a pain in the neck atm as i could really do with internet acccess myself.
Guest whitestar Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 (I don't know how long I'll stay in the UK, so a contact is not an option, since the minimum amount of time is 12 months here) If you want a short term contract you might be interested in this. O2 do a Online SIM only contract which has a 30 day notice period, if I remember correctly for £30 you get 400 xnet minutes & 1000 texts.

I got response from O2, though, and this is what they said; Dear Daniel, Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service. I am sorry that you are unable to access GPRS from your i-mate SP5. This may be because your SIM card was not correctly provisioned with GPRS and MMS. I have made the necessary changes to your account. Please wait for 24 hours for the changes to be effective. We do not have the specific O2 Active (GPRS and MMS) settings for the i-mate SP5, as this mobile phone is not a part of our portfolio. I have given below the generic GPRS and MMS settings for our network. You may enter these settings to see if the services work. GPRS Generic Settings: 1) Name O2 WAP GPRS 2) APN payandgo.o2.co.uk 3) Default URL http://payandgo.O2.co.uk 4) Port 9201 5) Security Off 6) IP Address 193.113.200.195 7) Linger time 120 seconds 8) Username - payandgo 9) Password - password MMS Generic Settings: 1) Profile Name - O2 MMS 2) Server URL - http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002 3) Gateway IP - 193.113.200.195 4) Bearer Type - select GPRS, Press Menu select Edit 5) AccessPointName - payandgo.o2.co.uk 6) User ID - payandgo 7) User Password - Password 8) Authentication - Normal If the above settings do not work, you will need to contact the mobile phone manufacturer. So perhaps there is a problem with my account with them. Can only hope...
Guest agent.m Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 At Last I have Internet. Praise The Lord :) In my hour of desperation I decided to hard reset my c550 figuring that orange may have something on the phone stopping my access from o2. I just loaded the arcsoft .cab again then in internet explorer i set the connections to wap network and turned off automatic detection. If you wanna know more about o2 gprs and the service etc check here. it quite interesting. http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
Guest scsi Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 "Contact o2 Customer Services to get this enabled. Not available on PAYG" I really must call their helpdesk and get this sorted. I keep hearing this, but yet, every official info I have says that GPRS should of course work with pay&go... :?:
