Guest eegs102 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Evenin all. I just wondered if anyone could advise about barcode scanners + software for MDA Vario with windows mobile 5. I've done a little bit of research and there seems to be an SD scanner available but Im after people with real world experience! Any comments / recommendations greatly appreciated. Cheers, Iain

For that matter I don't think the Wizard even supports SDIO (I think I read somewhere that it didn't support SDIO over it's MiniSD slot) :\ Edited January 22, 2006 by lekus

I've not heard of SDIO before? I guess its a particular type of SD slot? Could be a bit of a problem if its not supported! Cheers anyway. e
Guest lekus Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 SDIO allows an SD slot to act as an interface for devices, basically allowing a device to interpret data that is sent over the SD interface as anything it wants (i.e. commands) instead of just the set of SD commands used to store data on a card. Some typical uses: http://www.sdcard.com/usa/TextPage.asp?Page=5 I really don't know if the Wizard's MiniSD slot supports SDIO or not, it is possible though. Can't find any mention of MiniSD barcode scanners in google anyway, I don't really see manufacturers making them for MiniSD with standard sized SD being so common. Another problem would be the size I think. Even a small SD barcode scanner like this Pretec one, looks like it might be a bit easy to snap off were it attached to a smaller MiniSD card/plug.
Guest Tech Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 interesting thing but really the phones arent meant to be aimed for this at all - its like your saying a truck's engine should be able to fit in a mini cooper - it aint gonna happen ;) its a good idea/concept but i think it kinda is away from the whole smartphone/mobile solution
Guest jiffk Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 wouldnt it be easier to get a cheap pda of ebay and turn it into a dedicated barcode scanner or something until they do something with bluetooth
Guest lekus Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 An ETen M600 would make a nice alternative, if the phone functionality was also needed. The only thing it's missing is a full keyboard - but it has WM2005, WiFi and a 400mhz CPU, as well as a full size SDIO capable SD slot. http://www.eten.ch/DescriptionEtenM600EN.htm
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Dedicated units are really pricey! I'd be interested in something similar for a blue angel. http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=126127 would you really want your credit card details swiped into something with the orange logo on it though? Especially when you have to use pin authorisation from feb. Reminds me of those fake cash machine scams... http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=124514 Richard
Guest CrispyUK Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 There seem to be several bluetooth barcode scanners available and Expansys lists them as compatible with the Wizard models.

I run an ebay business and I would like to be able to use the internet to view my ebay inventory and walk around my stores and loading bay checking stock in and out, so it would be ideal.
