I absolutely love my pocket PC !!! Its an Orange SPV M1500.

Does anyone know if TomTom 5 will work on it? It has a Windows 2003 2nd Edition OS, surely TomTom 5 will work?

Thanks

Yep, TomTom Navigator versions 5.1 and above (I understand version 5.0 had stability and compatibility problems) should work fine on your SPV M1500. Although the SPV M1500 doesn't specifically appear on the official TomTom compatibility list, the XDA IIi which is the same device (an HTC Alpine) is listed.

I've found TomTom Navigator a superb sat nav solution, used it just this weekend to drive to Wales and back. I would actually recommend getting the TomTom Bluetooth GPS too as it's SO much easier to use (with generic units you have to pair the device and setup the outgoing com port whereas TomTom's own unit just has to be turned on)!

Apologies for appearing extra thick, but I have an Orange SPV M1500, and I wish to install a sat nav system.

Can anyone advise on what I need, where to get it from, how much this should cost me and do I install it?

When using sat nav, are you charged (££££'s) in anyway.

Look forward to hearing from anyone.

Thanks

For sat nav, you can do two things:

Buy TomTom and get it's GPS reciever

-or-

Buy a GPS Receiver and some other SatNav app. There are several.

You aren't charged for SatNav as it uses your GPS receiver, which is either bluetooth or wired to the phone.

As for which app to get, I'm not sure. I got TomTom however I would not say that I'm all that happy with it. When it works it's great, in fact it's pretty amazing. However, it seldom works for me, it's either losing all its config data, or it fails to calculate routes for some crazy reason. I'm off the road at the moment, so I've not had a go at getting it working again.

Have a look for reviews of the different ones and see what you need. They vary in price a lot. Search modaco for "sat nav recommend", that should give you some more info/opinions.

Hi,

I have an SPVM1500 as well, with OS version 3.11.1.167.

I've just bought TomTom Nav 5, and another OEM Bluetooth GPS Antenna.

Everything seems to work fine, the SPV `sees` the BT GPS Unit, pairs correctly, shows lots of satellites, yet whenever I run the tomtom software, it cant find the GPS unit ?

TomTom is version 5.100... I've tried to upgrade to latest patch but it wont let me.

any ideas ??

Do I need WM OS 5 ?
