Guest WJC19 Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 Hi Guys, I am about to write a letter to Orange and I was wondering if you could all post your problems here for me, I will be nice and polite as I work in a support role and I know being nice can sometimes get you favors and things, these are what I have noticed myself 1) I am not happy that some people are being charged for GPRS and that it states it is free during resonalble use I do not feel that 10MB is resonable use and the Terms and Conditions dont say anything about charging you or how much 2) The Support they supply isnt the best I dont think that most of the call staff have even seen a SPV let alone played with one (some will even admit to this if you push hard enough) 3) The digital signitures I think are all wrong 4) The neverending update where is it and why havent we had it yet Ill post it on here and the reply when I get it Anything else that you think I should raise with them I know it wont do much good but I think if we all let them know whats wrong they might do something about it, sorry I know I live in an Ideal world where the SPV never crashes ;)
Guest WJC19 Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 Also on another note is it true that the P800 wont use digital signitures and if not will it be avalible on Orange? Seems a tad unfair dont you think
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 I heard it will have a certificate lock. Don't hold me to it though. In Oranges defence, very few people have been charged for GPRS past the £6 bundle, and OCS does have to provide support for _all_ handsets on their network. Don't forget the SPV is still fairly "new" Digital certificates, no comment. The update is probably one of the failures on their part, not as much as the blatant lie about standby time though...
Guest xanadu Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 Hi Guys, I am about to write a letter to Orange and I was wondering if you could all post your problems here for me, Hasn't this been done many times before already ???? 1) I am not happy that some people are being charged for GPRS and that it states it is free during resonalble use I do not feel that 10MB is resonable use and the Terms and Conditions dont say anything about charging you or how much Why are you concerned that other people have been charged for GPRS ?? They are probably on a higher tarriff than you, that does not qualify for the £6 unlimited GPRS offer, and this is why they have been charged. 2) The Support they supply isnt the best I dont think that most of the call staff have even seen a SPV let alone played with one (some will even admit to this if you push hard enough) Orange have a dedicated SPV helpline which is pefectly adequate. 3) The digital signitures I think are all wrong That's your opinion and your entitled to it. But signing is here to stay. 4) The neverending update where is it and why havent we had it yet If you read the posts, we are expecting the update within the next 2 weeks Ill post it on here and the reply when I get it Why Bother ? We already know the answers.
Guest spikex Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 Why do we have to wait for such a long time for stock to arrive for the SPV? I ordered mine two weeks ago now and they still don't have any ideas as to when their will be stock arriving.
Guest WJC19 Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 xan I can clearly see you have no idea what your talking about do you even own an SPV a lot of people were charged past the £6 bundle, the digital certificates are anti-competitive and the update has been coming for 2 weekf for the past 4 months before you post think about what your going to say
Guest WJC19 Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 Another point xan digital signitures are not here to stay you can unlock your phone and leave the Orange network vunerable to attacks and part of it will be their fault and a lot of people share the view that they are wrong I bet you work for Orange go on admit it
Guest DJHope Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 Yeh just do a search on yahoo for the p800 white paper, its right their in black and white "CERTIFICATION" in big letters and notes that operators will have the option of locking the device, it says in red letters all over it "for internal use only" so you might not be able to find it anymore! DJ Hope
Guest WJC19 Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 Mono, The SPV has standby time wow I thought that was a feature they missed out ;)
Guest AsherUK Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003 Orange have a dedicated SPV helpline which is pefectly adequate. umm.... it wasn't perfectly adequate the 4 times I've called it !!
Guest WJC19 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 It hasnt been perfect most of the times people have called it some even admit to never even seeing an SPV let alone playing with one
Guest chewie Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 I have to agree the SPV helpline is a damn disgrace. I have called no end of times about stupid little problems (e.g why my phone turns itself off then when it reboots it asks for a PUK code, or why my phone wouldn't activsync at all with any PC what so ever) and have always had to sort the problem out myself (usually with a hard reset). I rekon Orange could save a shed load of money on wages if they employed some people from the board. You could get 10 members of this board doing the job of 100 people on the SPV Helpline.

I rekon Orange could save a shed load of money on wages if they employed some people from the board. You could get 10 members of this board doing the job of 100 people on the SPV Helpline. Only 100? They really are useless. They only have the odd person that can actually help you which fortunately I have been lucky enough to speak to. Also don't even get me started on "Customer Services"....No doubt me previous post on this topic stated my views enough. I still have a query outstanding with their "Technical Support" which I'm not holding my breath for a response on. I know the phone is new but that doesn't excuse the p*ss poor support they "provide". They've known long enough the phone was due to hit the market when it did and had plenty of time to get a suitable support infrastructure in place but have failed miserably! I'm still seriously considering ending my contract for the SPV and getting a different phone. One they can actually support perhaps
Guest tomesy Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 On a vaguely simular theme - anyone know a postal address for Orange. I need to write to them regarding International Roaming, but am feed up of not getting a response through email. I cant find anything on their website. Thanks.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Maybe that's why they direct people to this site ;) P
Guest mise Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Are people from the board gonna work for 11k a year? Didn't think so.
Guest WJC19 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Paul I agree with you maybe once they click the delete key on your e-mail its over, out of sight out of mind so to speak, I agree most of the people on this board could provide better support as most of us have actually been bothered to play around with them a little
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Having read this thread WJC19, it's nice to see you have taken on-board some of the advice that we gave your alter-ego - weswes19 - in your other thread.... ABOUT THE EXACTLY SAME SUBJECT :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: Who said you can't teach an old "cat" new tricks ;) You want to get out more my friend!
Guest HelloDave Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 WJC19, it's nice to see you have taken on-board some of the advice that we gave your alter-ego - weswes19Very observant cepheus! Interesting to see that 25 minutes after you posted the above weswes19's age mysteriously changed from the same as WJC19's to 93. And WJC joined and started posting about complaining to Orange the same day weswes stopped. Maybe he's embarrased about weswes19's amusing posts a couple of days ago. Ahhhh. Glad I don't work in the Nottingham NHS! Imagine tracking down the guy; it'd be a nightmare! "Hi, I spoke to wes yesterday about my faulty stapler" "ooh, sorry wes isn't here anymore, but des his twin brother is; can he help you?" xan I can clearly see you have no idea what your talking about do you even own an SPV He hasn't lost that flattering way with words either, though the spellchecker seems to have been taken out of cold storage. It's good to know the NHS have only the best IT support staff. Another point xan digital signitures are not here to stay you can unlock your phone and leave the Orange network vunerable to attacks and part of it will be their fault and a lot of people share the view that they are wrong I bet you work for Orange go on admit itAnd his objective, factually accurate and unbiased reviewing technique and unique grammatical style remain intact. Always good to know there's someone you can rely on for well researched opinions ;) I will be nice and polite as I work in a support role and I know being nice can sometimes get you favors and things Credit where credit's due though, he is a fast learner. Not sure what sort of favours he's referring to - perhaps a topic best left to the imagination?
Guest AsherUK Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 LOL ;) .... top marks to Andy (aka HelloDave) for amusing me before I go to bed. Weswes19 / WJC19 (or whatever he's called today) topics are now the first port of call when I log onto the fourm. Orange are a joke, but Weswes19 is soooooo much funnier
Guest Bazz Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Alright, alright. He made a mistake and looked a bit foolish, but can we give the poor guy a break now? Think we humiliated him enough. No wonder he changed his name, and probably has again. Christ, and I thought I was harsh when I disagreed with a post!
Guest AsherUK Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Yeah, I agree. (and I give my humble appologies to Weswes, who probably has a very stressful and under-paid job in the NHS). We're all here to solve our problems and try to make the SPV a better and more useful product, and Weswes19 just came here to add his own views and opinions like the rest of us. (although, maybe he should of put in a little more thought before making the posts). I for one really like this forum, it's friendly, it's a mine of useful information and seems to have some very intresting and sometimes ammusing posts (and posters). And anyway, if we need a laugh we could always phone Orange customer services ! ;) (my SPV is working ok today, so I'm feeling pretty forgiving !)
Guest Stealthy Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 umm.... it wasn't perfectly adequate the 4 times I've called it !! I am suprised they even spoke to you. The dedicated helpline is for software trials, I think. Thats what they told me. When I said I was a developer they cut me dead. Even went as far as to tell me they were going to boll03k customer services for even mentioning the number.
