ActiveSync 4.1 Causes Disconnection from Domain

Hello all!

We've recented received a few Cingular 2125 (HTC Faraday) devices from Cingular, and they seem to fix a lot of the dropped call and GPRS issues that we were having with the Audiovox SMT5600 (HTC Typhoon). HOWEVER, a new problem has raised its head now that we can actually talk on our devices. ;)

Upgrade or uninstall/reinstall of Activesync to 4.1 (version that ships with the Cingular 2125) causes the host computer to disconnect from the domain and turns on offline files randomly when the phone is connected. Obviously, this is not a good thing for people that are running the phone in a corporate environment, and can be 'fixed' by telling offline files to resync with the server. Again though, this will only reconnect you for a few minutes until you get kicked off again.

Has anyone heard of this issue or know a workaround? I've googled and searched the forums, but haven't had any luck even finding it mentioned. So far, the three computers we have tested this on have the same results, regardless of whether we upgrade our Activesync or uninstall / reboot / reinstall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Love the phone [other than the hump], but inability to stay connected to the domain when the phone is connected is a rather large item!

Thanks in advance!

Update:

I seem to have fixed the problem by uncheck 'client for microsoft networks' and 'file/print sharing for ms networks' in the properties of the Windows Mobile 5 lan adapter that shows up on the computer when the phone is plugged in. This still allows TCP/IP passthrough, but doesnt make the computer feel it's being double-dipped on the server side.

I've tried your workaround but unfortunately it looks as if those tickbox options are greyed out on my works PC installation.

Are you aware of any other workarounds or is this a case of waiting for MSFT to fix the bug...?

Thanks in advance.

By "disconnect from the domain" do you mean it drops off the network or is removed from the domain into a workgroup? (if it is the latter then that is really strange and wouldn't be fixed by leaving it - you would have to use a domain admin account to rejoin it)

Are you wired or wireless?

Lo !,

I have the same problems with offlinefiles

my thread > Offline files

your idea at uncheck 'client for microsoft networks' and 'file/print sharing for ms networks' in the properties of the Windows Mobile 5 lan adapter,

I wounder if this have any side effects with sync etc? One is you have to do this on serveral usb connections it creates one uniqe for every usb port? like 3-4-5 etc

but seems to work, cheers !

I would like to join the growing number of people with this problem.

The unticking of 'client for microsoft networks' and 'file/print sharing for ms networks' hasn't caused any problems for my users. (That includes users that are synchronising with both our Exchange Server and their local PC for favourites and smartphonenotes)

Any application that creates an additional network connection, with these two settings ticked, can cause an 'Offline Files - Working Offline' balloon to appear. (We've been having the same problem with Cisco's VPN Client.)

Providing a USB device doesn't create a 'network connection' you shouldn't have a problem.

I've just posted a question on this in the Microsoft SBS Server 2003 Newsgroup. I'll report back with a better solution if I get one.

Regards
