Guest Dunx Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 (edited) Just a few ideas for improvements to WM5.0 and Tornado/Faraday equivalent phones. Maybe we could get a list together and someone like Paul with contacts in the right places could pass them on to Microsoft/HTC for future updates/improvements. Note: I’ve edited this post and listed all the suggestions below. Note, I don’t feel expert enough to comment on the suggestions below so I have added them ‘as is’ without editing, feel free to question any that may be here. Also if the suggestion can already be done without 3rd party software let us know how. 1. Earpiece volume changes not only the earpiece but the volume of everything. This should change the volume of the earpiece only, there are separate controls in the settings for ring volume etc. 2. Backlight settings don’t work correctly on Faraday phones (like the C500 used to). 3. E-mail connections. Options for send and receive automatically only if connected to Wi-Fi or activesync. Keeps down my data costs. 4. Notes on Outlook to sync as standard (sorry smartphonenotes I want this function for free). 5. Receipts regarding SMS/MMS delivery should recognise by default the number from Contacts and should have a separate folder (or at least the possibility to delete only receipts from inbox) - not to metion that it would be nice to have each receipt something like: "message pending/sent to contact" in subject so that i do not open each one. This is a feature that to me seems quite simple and very old, available to phones created years ago... 6. Ability to add a keypad shortcut to the Alarm 7. Better T9, the ability to select a word after it has been deselected. 8. Saving the letters when adding a new word. Often it os only one or two letters that are wrong, it would be easier to correct that. 9. Insert a note in the calendar for a day without having to add a time period. 10. The possibility to edit tasks. 11. The possibility to use the phone as a removable drive. Just a folder that is not secured by encryption. Let the user choose the security level, we dont need MS to do that for us. 12. Built in VOIP client for SIP-accounts. 13. Let the user be able to disable the confirmation screens when deleting stuff. Some people know what they are doing and are willing to take the risk at going without the second chance feature. 14. A Copy, Send (Using IR and Bluetooth) and Delete ALL contacts option (Maybe the same for pictures) 15. Build in MSOffice document reader support (After all its an MS phone!) 16. Pocket IE needs to use less of the screen to communicate the fact that its trying to connect to a web page. At present about 10% of the screen is taken up by this! 17. Add a stylus. I know it's not a pocket pc but I don't want to walk with one of those clunky devices. I'd prefer a stylus and an area where I can do data entry (just writing if you cant do on screen). 18. Add a place where you can attack a wrist strap (Note from Dunx: My SP5 has this not sure about others) 19. Oh and make phone filesystem appear as hard drive when connected without having to install activesync. It would be nice also if there was a pop out usb connector so I wouldn't have to walk around with cable. Then I can do away with usb stick. 20. Phone already has possibility to copy and paste stuff...but this only in applications or certain designated places...Improvement: add a multiple selection to texts (maybe even contacts) with copy and paste options everywhere ! Example: copy and paste some information from a text file (or from an sms) to calendar note or to contact note - or even phone number, instead of actually writing it and having to use TM to switch back and forth... 21. if we cannot have the phone file system be recognised as UMS ...why not have WM5 recognise by itself UniversalMassStorage devices ?...that is if i rig a cable and plug my USB stick to my phone...why not be able to use that space 22. A prompt to ask you if you want to use over the air data services. For example when opening explorer to go online (or in fact any aplication that is going online), the phone should have the option to enable a prompt that say something along the lines of 'Going online using GPRS. do you want to proceed'. This would be useful especially whilst roaming to ensure you don't get huge unexpected data costs. 23. Better 'phone' features:The ability to have regular reminders (alerts) e.g every 1 minute. When we have missed calls and new Msgs(SMS/MMS/Email). Either by a tone, vibration or both depending on profile. 24. Be able to send group SMS more efficiently, we should be able to select the recipients in one go from the list of contacts, perhaps even set up SMS mailing lists (groups) for convenience e.g all football buddies, work colleagues etc. 25. The ability to create a few more adittional profiles would also be quite nice. 26. One thing that really annoys me is the way the date is the wrong way round (American way) in SMS lists. Changing the region etc doesn't change the date here. (Note from Dunx. Time received for items over 24h old in the SMS list would be nice too) Edited February 6, 2006 by Dunx
Guest MitchellO Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 I completely agree about #4. Notes should be included. SmartphoneNotes is a bit too expensive I think, so I just converted my required notes to text files and use a free text reader.
Guest Amun.hidden1 Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 think people missed your post...gotta keep this one up, there are alot of things that can be improved...but then it would be the perfect phone :) i am adding this for now, and probably will add later more :D 5. receipts regarding SMS/MMS delivery should recognize by default the number from Contacts and should have a separate folder (or at least the possiblity to delete only receipts from inbox) - not to metion that it would be nice to have each receipt something like: "message pending/sent to contact" in subject so that i do not open each one this is a feature that to me seems quite simple and very old, available to phones created years ago...
Guest Dunx Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Another one from me: 6. Ability to add a shortcut to the Alarm
Guest LarsDK Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 7. Better T9, the ability to select a word after it has been deselected. 8. Saving the letters when adding a new word. Add a place where you can attack a wrist strap

Guest Amun.hidden1 Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 joystick needs work. to easyy to press is when you want to move it. Add a place where you can attack a wrist strap <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i have a c600 and it does have wrist strap :D and i certainly agree with the joystick bit...but i do not see how these count as WM5 improvements :??: i think if we do a vote ...90% of owners will vote for having the file system of their phones as UMS...hmmm what a dream. I will add another thing: phone already has possibility to copy and paste stuff...but this only in applications or certain designated places...Improvement: add a multiple selection to texts (maybe even contacts) with copy and paste options everywhere ! example: copy and paste some information from a text file (or from an sms) to calendar note or to contact note - or even phone number, instead of actually writing it and having to use TM to switch back and forth... :x if we cannot have the phone file system be recognised as UMS ...why not have WM5 recognise by itself UniversalMassStorage devices ?...that is if i rig a cable and plug my USB stick to my phone...why not be able to use that space  :) i will probably add more as memories from my oldNokia slap me again...

Guest dalyboy Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 Better 'phone' features: The ability to have regular reminders (alerts) e.g every 1 minute. It may be possible to do these things using software, I haven't seen any though(so let me know if you can). Still the OS should really support these features natively. dalyboy
