Guest mikkeka Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 I think supports the g standard but not the speeds.
Guest rsearley Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 I think supports the g standard but not the speeds. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i think you will find its 802.11b this is the spec for the SP5 as writen on the imate site, i dont see why the qtek would differ

What ther probably mean by (802.11b/g) is that you can use it on a 802.11b/g accespoint as you can all 802.11b compliant devices. Keep in mind though that having one 802.11b client on your 802.11g network will limit bandwith for all other clients aswell.. Edited January 23, 2006 by mwille
Guest kam_ Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Its b... the confusion comes from the chip that they use. That can encode b and g frames, but the phone as it is can't be used for g. I suspect it just takes too much power as it is using b, and g modulation may require a more expensive baseband.
Guest MitchellO Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Its only B. The HTC Wizard is B/G and really the only benefit is allowing you to use it on a WiFi network that is set to G-Only. Most aren't

Guest MitchellO Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Same with me, when on G only it doesn't connect.
Guest sveintore Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Is it the same wireless chip as in Qtek 9100? If so this is a patch that enables pure 802.11g-support (and a couple of other things, so check it out before running it) Developed by Dangaard, the norwegian importer. http://www.windowsmobile.no/index.php?name...eq=getit&lid=78
Guest MitchellO Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 I doubt it very much. The Tornado does not have G hardware, so no patches will make it so.

I went to the website and it is in a language other than English, Norweigen I guess. I tried to get the Google language tool to translate the website and couldn't. Is there some information regarding this patch someplace in English where I could read about it? TIA
Guest zeros1122 Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Wifi: YES (802.11b/g) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I believe it's a typo. Only 11b is supported, although it's speed is not bad ;)

Guest namiran Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 (edited) I have to say its very missleading to write b/g when the actual hardware is limited to only b as i suspected. The fact that a g router supports b clients is not a valid reason to specify b/g as wlan capabilitys of the phone... I think modaco should change this in the pinned thread, i think many who are intressted in the phone and start googling will end up on this forum and such fact sheet should not be so missguiding... But maybe its just me ;) Edited January 24, 2006 by namiran
Guest MitchellO Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Yeah saying b/g definately is misleading.

Guest namiran Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 it is a pinned topic on this forum http://www.modaco.com/HTC_Tornado_i_mate_S...10-t235424.html i dont know what his source modaco has...not pointing any fingers here, just think its misleading...
