Guest real_sweet Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Okay, I have an unlocked (Rogers subscriber -Canada) cingular branded smt5600 which I had dropped some time ago and rendered it useless. Here's a list of problems: -The LCD broke and most of the buttons don't work. -I cannot make a call, however I can fully accept calls. -Power button works for ON, not OFF -Cannot hard reset I have since changed the LCD and the screen remains white. I changed the key pad and it still doesn't work. Any help is appreciated.

Well if you dont mind splashing out even more you could look at htcs website they do have a repairing service but u might be better off settling for a £90 part exchange one with orange? ive never heard of that unlocking method why not use the one modaco.

I can only hit the green 'accept' button to accept calls. -I can use the power button to turn it on, but not off -I replaced both the LCD and front fascia (which the buttons are attached to) and now i just have a white screen, still no use of buttons. -I cannot hard reset Will reflashing help bring it back?

With the LCD, try pushing the ribbon in further / harder, with the keypad, check the ribbon cable for tears and try re-seating the connection. Richard

Richard <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Richard, I tried that several times last night, however perhaps I was getting frusterated. I will try again tonight with the LCD, however I purchased a brand new fascia w key pad so I don't know why it would work. This is very frusterating! Keep the suggestions coming though folks! All help is appreciated!

All help is appreciated! Where did you buy the fascia with keypad board from? I don't know of anyone who sells them as a complete unit, are you sure it isn't a 'working pull' unit? Keep trying with the LCD, but do be careful, multiple insertions can wear the fold of the ribbon and suddenly you loose backlighting as the outer edge has cracked ;) Make sure you line it up straight before inserting - I find bending the ribbon slightly and pushing the fold hard works for me. Richard

Richard <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I bought from an ebay store...the keys are covered by a metal piece which is screwed to the fascia and with the ribbon hanging out. Also, the lcd insert on the chipboard actually has a little flap, so instead of sliding the ribbon in, you lay it down on it and essentially clip it between the base and flap. I haven't my tools with me at work so I guess I'll have to keep trying.

No, even with the gate up you still need to push the LCD ribbon in firmly - laying it on top and closing the gate would seem to be the cause of the problem. Trust me, I've written many teardown guides :-) Have you looked at the diss-assembly / dust fix instructions in the pinned topic section? Lots of people have had this when they have taken a typhoon apart. I doubt your keypad is new so I would take it up with the ebay seller. The ribbon could be torn behind the metal plate. Richard

Thanks. gr8! ppl that agree with me!! heres an idea, try using the true connect software which allows u to use mouse and keyboard on ure phone, (not emulator software but allows you to move mouse on screen) do this and you can see whether it is the keypad not working or the phone software its self.

Richard <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yes, i have viewed the dust fix instructions, but there's nothing about the actual LCD swap in that tutorial...i do believe u are right tho as I haven't pushed the lcd in fully. That will be my first attempt when i get home. Also, my keypad is not new, i'm sure it's from another unit, however would u suggest taking off the metal plate to check? unlikely that ribbons on both phones would be ripped. i'm going to try the true connect software once the lcd problem is remedied... YOU GUYS ARE GREAT! I really appreciate all this help. Richard, if u have any other links to tutorials I'd love to see them. Chris

Did they work before you swopped the front i.e do you know for defo that your old keypad works? The only thing to be aware of when putting the keypad into the face is make sure the rubber buttons are aligned properly before screwing it back in as otherwise the button push 'feel' won't be right. See here: http://www.modaco.com/Removing_c500_fascia...y_-t228450.html for how to swop the front without voiding the warranty ( bit late now though eh? ;) Richard

I cannot power the phone off, but i can power it on. I cannot make calls, but I can accept by pressing the 'green accept' button.
Guest mini_man Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 try the true connect software to see if its just the keypad or somthing else

When you swopped it over did you notice anything around the connector? Has the unit ever been damp? You could have corrosion / shorts on some of the contacts inside the connector, and possibly around the control IC which you'd only spot staring at the thing. What was the ebay item number out of interest? Richard
Guest real_sweet Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 RICHARD, MY PHONE IS FIXED!!! It was the LCD...i just didn't push it in far enough. Once I felt it snap in, i tried it and everything works...keys, screen...EVERYTHING! THANK YOU MODACO, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Fantastic, well done :-) Richard
Guest Duch Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 I have the same white screen problem, every thing else in my phone works perfectly, i cant see what i am doing. I have been reading and it seems that i need to push this ribbon in but i am not sure what ribbon this is and if i have to release somthing first. I hav e gone in and looked and the ribbon that i think you are talking about is the one that goes from under the lcd and curls up and into the bottom of the lcd. Any help would be appriciated thanks.
