Guest mjoyeux Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Sorry if this is in the wrong forum... Any how... Okay... Well I got a new phone yesterday, the Orange c600, which is a Windows Smartphone, I plugged it in and then installed the activ sync 4.0 software which came with the phone. The software couldn't find the phone. I then tried to go online to see if any one has had a similar problem. One problem, my internet is now not working, I try on my phone and I see that people have, they recommend that people upgrade to Activ Sync 4.1, as there's been loads of problems with people connecting with Activ Sync 4.0. So I trudge off to Uni to download 4.1, I get home install it, Activsync still won't recongise the phone and my internet still isn't working! The phone shows up as a network connection, I've uninstalled the phone several times, reinstalled the wireless card driver, switched the modem and router off, followed the NTLworld support lines instructions. 1.Turn PC Off 2.Take power lead out of cable modem 3.Unscrew Co-Axial cable 4.Switch off router 5.Coaxial back into modem 6.Power in modem 7.Wait until SYNC and RDY lights are solid 8.Plug in Router. 9.Start up PC 10. Internet should work... But it didn't. His reasoning for it not working was that the router has lost the I.P address of the modem. My internet has ceased working. I'm still connected to the wireless network we have in our house. We've got a D Link router and I connect though a D Link DWL G120, the network isn't encrypted. I was running zone alarm, but uninstalled it last night incase that was the problem with me connecting. So at the moment I've got no firewall, which isn't that much of a problem seeing as I have no internet. When I go into Command Prompt and type in ipconfig I just get Windows IP Configuration and nothing else. When I click on the network icon in the task bar then on the "Support" tab, the connection status fields are all blank. In the network connections, I've got 1394 Connection 2, Connected 1394 Net Adaptor. Not entirely sure what this is, but it won't disable. Then I've got Local Area Connection 3, Disabled. This is the Ethernet Socket on my computer which isn't used, so I disabled it to make my task bar less cluttered. Then there's the Wireless Network Connection... On the properties tab, I've got... Client for Microsoft Networks checked, file and printer sharing for microsoft networks checked, qos packet scheduler checked, NWlink NetBios unchecked, NWlink IPX/SPX/NetBios Compatable Transport protocol checked, Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 checked, and network moniter driver checked, on the wireless network properties the network name SSID is default, we've not got the network encrypted, which is a whole other barrel of monkeys. But setting it up with encryption just didn't work. But anyway, it's been working fine unencrypted for the last six months... On the advanced tab, we've got "Anny availbile network" selected And "Automatically connect to non preferred networks" unchecked. That's all I can think of finding... I've having to trudge to Uni to post this, then trudge back home to work on my dissertation. Any help would be massively appreciated, either in getting my phone to sync or in getting the internet to work. Obviously the internet is the most important thing. I could really do with a helping hand here. Any more information needed? Just ask...
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 If you're doing IPCONFIG and not getting any details, it sounds like your wireless connection is actually disabled? P

P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is enabled and it's connected, it's just that I'm not able to connect to the internet... Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 So when you IPConfig you don't get ANY details? Is your wireless connection showing as actually connected? Also, on your properties tab, I would expect to see 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)', which you haven't listed. I assume you've tried an ActiveSync uninstall? P
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 You could try doing 'Properties -> Install -> Protocol -> Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' on your wireless connection... P
Guest Tech Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 (edited) from the start - this should never have happened AT ALL I have an imate sp5m and C500 activesynced both to my wireless and wired computers - never had a problem I think you may be best to hard reset the device as this sort of stuff should never happen AT ALL! it just doesnt make sense for this to happen Edited January 24, 2006 by Tech
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 It's a PC problem now rather than a device problem though! P
Guest MitchellO Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 http://www.xp-smoker.com/freeware.html Give this a try. It might restore your TCP/IP functionality.
Guest Tech Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 (edited) im sorry paul but i kinda have to disagree with you a bit :D ;) im not just saying this because of my C600 thing going on - I am a hardware/software engineer and troubleshoot such things - just talking from experience :D Edited January 24, 2006 by Tech
Guest ElGato65 Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 It is enabled and it's connected, it's just that I'm not able to connect to the internet... GRRRRRRÂ  I dunno why but this makes me very sad... :roll:Â ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OK, I think you need to forget the wireless for a second, it's just an added complication right now. 1st thing you need to try is plugging Cable Modem directly into PC to see if at least that works. A PITA I know, but the only way to resolve this sensibly is one step at a time.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 So you think hard resetting his phone will make his PC connect to the internet again (bearing in mind the phone isn't plugged in at this point). I have myself down as something of an expert too you know ;) P
Guest ElGato65 Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Is that testosterone I smell. ;)
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Can I ask what desktop o.s? Can't see anything mentioned... I am a hardware/software engineer and troubleshoot such things - just talking from experience :D I have myself down as something of an expert too you know :D P Maybe we could all list our Microsoft / Cisco / Novell / Citrix qualifications in our sigs to prove our expertise? Can I start? Can I? Can I? ;) Richard

I tend to agree with Paul in that hardreseting the phone is unlikely to fix another computers problem :D

If you get a happy post back in a few hours from me, my internet at home is working... If not, assume I'm still not a happy bunny and on the verge of kicking the blasted thing... I knew I was a little addicted to the net, but last night I had nothing to do... Went for a run, did some weights and then... ...bored...
