Guest sparkesy Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Hey guys, I'm tempted with the idea of trying to speed up my m5000 by uninstalling the 'customisation version' that is listed in the remove programs dialog. I assume this is to do with the orange fiddly bits, such as xml desktop thingy etc etc. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this? As I don't want to uninstall it without first backing it up and currenlty dont' have a backup tool.
Guest Larnsky Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 You can just turn off the orange home screen in the today screen items list, I did this on mine and it makes a world of difference!

That was the first reconfig I did... a hard reset will reinstall it if you feel you need it again... a 14 day trial version of Sunnysoft Backup Manager is available also if you need that: http://www.sunnysoft.com/en_clanek.php?clanekid=51
Guest sparkesy Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Yeh I've disabled the homescreen too, as has been said it was the first thing to do when you get the device. To be honest with you I'm so youst to the standard homescreen, as I've previously had an axim x3 and an orange m2000, that I couldn't deal with all that orange faff. I'll get this backup manager now and will uninstall the customisations.
Guest sparkesy Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 well I just uninstalled the customisation thingy and to be honest with you. I can't see ANY change. WTF was in it? I've checked in all the folders and I honestly can't see any software thats been removed or any change in the device state.

Guest sparkesy Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 hardly worth 'em installing it really ;)

This is a foolproof and safe way of testing the performance with no Orange junk installed... When you've finished you can simply perform another hard reset without a soft reset thereafter.... et voila!! just how it was when you first received it from Orange... !!
Guest sparkesy Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 I'll have to try that. I'm assuming you've done this to yours, how was the performance difference?
