MPx200 - having problems deleting SMS

I've had an MPx200 for quite a while now; haven't ever had any problems with it. Lately I discovered that it's been saving ALL my text messages (about 3000 between sent items and inbox). The phone started giving me messages that I was running out of space. I decided that rather than deleting all the SMS and losing them forever I'd like to back them up. I ran a small program that claimed to convert your SMS to emails so they'd sync into Outlook. This was, apparently, a huge mistake. I guess emails take up much more space on the phone than SMS. The program stopped after a few seconds and said that I was totally out of space.

Anyway my phone's internal memory is now totally full. It's pretty much nonresponsive (each click takes about 10 seconds to register, and the thing takes 10-15 minutes to power on and off). I've been trying to delete the offending messages; I managed to download a program called SMS Tools to the phone, which supposedly deletes all SMS messages, but I've run it three times now and after each time the messages are still in my inbox when I check. The phone freezes constantly. Is there anything I can do? I'd rather not lose everything stored on the internal memory, but I guess I'd rather have a phone that works. Anybody have any ideas?

Welcome to the forum ;)

You could attach phone to PC with ActiveSync and clear out the \Windows \Messaging & MAPI folders and see if that clears out the SMS & emails.

Otherwise delete cemail.vol (?) which should achieve the same.

Failing that, you're looking at a hard reset
