Guest simonbratt99 Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 (edited) hi, i used the c500 ability to cover the speaker with your finger to mute any noise, this was brilliant. Phone on my disk might ring , i could pick it up , mute it, and read whos phoning, now the blimin thing rings and annoys people. Putting your finger over the speaker hole now (c600) doesnt do anything :-( Who else liked this 'function' Edited January 25, 2006 by simonbratt99
Guest newtonmj Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 (edited) It certainly seems like the sounds from the C600 leaks out from all over the place. However, all is not lost - simply press the 'volume down' button on the side (not sure if 'up' also works) when you receive a call and it'll mute the ringing... (this feature was also available on the C500 so your finger-over-speaker trick has always been unnecessary...! ;)) Mathew Edited January 25, 2006 by newtonmj
Guest trevormuk Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Why wouldn't you set the profile to Meeting?

I had wondered where the 'silence but not reject' option was hidden. Thanks for this excellent tidbit mate!

Was especially handy to "mute" delivery report alerts while sitting at the dinner table! lol
Guest trevormuk Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 Am I missing something? Why don't you put the phone in silent or meeting mode? In meeting mode the phone vibrates - so you know someone is calling or sending a text etc .. Seems like a bizarre ritual if you ask me :)
Guest newtonmj Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 (edited) If you have it in silent mode you're obviously not going to hear it when it rings so that's out... If you opt instead for vibrate then you've got to have it on your person - you might not want this so that's out... (buzzing around on your desk like an Ann Summers sample might also be out) Which leaves the only option of having it actually ring. That's fine, but this doesn't mean you necessarilly want to answer it (should I? shouldn't I? type of pondering...) and whilst you're deciding (or wandering off somewhere private to answer/speak) you don't want the embarassing ringtone that your girlfriend put on for you (okay, it was me) causing annoyance or funny looks. Hence, some form of user-induced muting is perfect... and for those that RTFM that means simply pressing the volume button as discussed (and for those that didn't they can simply adopt the finger/palm/body cover-all-holes approach of their choice..! :)). Guest newtonmj Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Doing so is likely to ruin the speaker, the speaker will be trying to move and wont be able to due to being prevented by being airtight. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nonsense!! :)
Guest Harp Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Hmmm.... Why don't you just have a ring tone that only rings for the same time that it used to take for you to get your finger over the speaker hole on the C500!!! Yes I know they repeat, but just record your own and leave a long gap after it. Then you can just set up one of the other profiles to do this, if it is such a problem. Sorted. :)
Guest gilesjuk Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Nonsense!! :) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you say so, but sometimes the circuits and speakers haven't been designed to cope with the strain of such situations (cheap speakers are made with paper). There have been numerous reports of C500 speakers breaking, so you have to wonder if people have broken them this way.
