Sega Emulators on PPC

Recommended Posts

Hi There,

My first post and hope I'm not breaking any rules :?: but have been playing around with emulators on my XDA IIs and was wondering if anyone can help.

Morphgear is really good but wont play some of my Sega games although they play with the following

Pocketgenesis (Version 1) is awesome - will play landscape but cant map buttons

Pocketgenesis (Version 2) can map buttons but just plain wont work on my unit?

Picodrive is also great but no landscape - Parrallax20 has done some great work to this for the smartphone and love using it on my C550 in landscape so was wondering if anyone could do the same for the PPC version?

I have learnt loads from this site but unfortunatley know nothing about programming or code so dont know how difficult it would be to update any of the above (would ideally love to be able to map buttons in Pocketgenesis as full screen landscape is wicked!!) but would welcome any suggestions at all.

Cheers

It shouldn't be that difficult to make the necessary changes, it just takes a dedicated person to spend a little time looking at the code. PicoDrive was ported from the PocketPC version and uses a lot of the same code, but I had to rework some of it to operate correctly on smartphones. Have you tried running my build of PicoDrive on your XDA, it might work? Worth giving it a try.

Hi Parallax

Thanks for reply - yeah have tried your version but seems that although your file search can see the files .bin and .smd are there in the directory I cannot open them?

In the original version of Picodrive it does not have the FileDialogSP so dont know if that has something to do with it??

FileDialogSP.dll was designed for smartphones to emulate the OpenFile dialog of PocketPC. You can try uploading this along with the exe to see if it works.

The keys you use to to select the file may be mapped differently...try to find out what the equivilant action button of the joystick and also menu and contacts soft buttons are for your pocketpc.

Hey there Parallax sorry about the late reply - been on holidays....

Have tried your suggestion with your version I did manage to select a file but it would only play in about 1/2 of the screen(320x240 I presume?)

Just need to be able to rotate screen on PPC version of Picodrive and all would be good but even though I have a hardware button mapped to that function it does not work in Picodrive?

hi parallax,

i also tried to get your version of picodrive running on my xda mini s. softkey worked fine, open file dialog worked fine (you just need to know from smartphone version of picodrive that you have to press the middle of the dpad to choose the file).

BUT unfortunately the key config doesn't work. it makes more than one click to the button that i want to use (so left softkey is a AND :). and the hardware keyboard isn't recognized. the keysettings.exe from original smartphone port does not behave like this. but it doesn't give me the possibility to assign the directions.

do you have an idea how to solve this problem?

damn, there is no good genesis emulator for pocketpc and pocket uae is to slow.
