Guest Transform Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 i have just puchased this: i was just wondering if you have to have activesync installed on the computer for it to be able to install? if that is so its a bit silly because then you would have to carry the cd around with you to install it. i have tried it on a pc which doesnt have activesync on it and it says that it cannot find the drivers for it. can anyone help me?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 Yes, you need ActiveSync on some devices due to the way HTC implement things. I think my Dopod 818 charges without AS, but most don't. You can get it off the web tho ;) P
Guest Transform Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 oh :?: i bought it under the impression that i could just plug it into a pc and it would charge ;) how does yours charge without AS?
Guest Transform Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 does anyone have anymore info on this?
Guest mini_man Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 theres really nothing to say? well hopefully microsoft will come to there sences and create drivers for a removable drive, are maybe they'l think about how useful it is to have it charge the phone withought active sync, surely there should be simple software that just routes the usb power? wake up microsoft!!
Guest Transform Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Paul [MVP] said that his charges without AS. how is that possible?
Guest mini_man Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 it can also depend on the wiring and circuitry of his device, there maybe a software in the phone as well that tells the phone there is a usb power supply availible and that i can use it. where as with our c500 and c550 phones it notices there is a usb power supply availible but that it is not directed from A.S therefore the power is declined. it can be any of these things
Guest Transform Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 is it possible to install activesync onto a pen drive so that i can run it from there and then plug my mini usb it for it to work?
Guest mini_man Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 im not sure? why dont u give it a shot and report back to us. im assuming you mean install active sync on to it so it will run off the pen drive yeh?? if so that would be quite useful as you can get minute pen drives which have 128 mb that you just hook onto your key chain. well i dont have one of those unfortuatley just a chunky 512mb
Guest Transform Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 i have a 1gb. but im not sure if its possible to install something onto a pen drive. i'll give it a go
Guest Transform Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 (edited) i think i have it working from my pen drive but how do i close activesync because i cant right click the icon and exit. do you know the process name of it? i have just realised a weird thing.... i plugged the pen drive in then plugged the phone in. activesync icon appeared and it could charge but i couldnt get the icon to go. i restarted the computer and now there is no icon, yet it can still charge. has opening activesync on the pen drive left some of the program on the computer? Guest mini_man Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 you may be onto somthing there or there is that possiblity that having the smartphone usb sync drivers on the pc without having active sync installed allows charging. what happens if you unplug the usb stick and plug in the phone? maybe the usb stick has some chargin resource that has been moved to the pc, look forward to your reply Sam
Guest Transform Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 (edited) i had to pull out the usb stick because it wouldnt let me safely remove it as AS was still running. i then put the phone in and it started charging and the AS logo when green although i couldnt explore the phone etc because AS was on the usb stick. so some how the charging drivers have gone onto the pc? i then restarted the pc (btw this was done on a pc which didnt have AS on it) to get rid of the AS logo. then i plugged the phone in and it starts to charge up but no AS logo so it seems to work. what do you think? Guest mini_man Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 thts really really gr8! so really it must must be somthing todo with the smartphone usb sync drivers. now all we need is somthing that will install the drivers that you could just upload to a server. any programmers out there interested *Objective* An exe installer that will install the smartphone usb sync drivers that should be extracted from active sync *Reason* This will allow charging from the usb to the phone without the need of active sync.
Guest Transform Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 i guess thats the right way to go about it. i will use my method for now because theres no hastle in it. just plug the usb stick in, plug phone in, take usb stick out :) maybe there is 1 file that you need out of the activesync folder than is the driver for allowing the phone to charge. perhaps you would only need that on the usb stick instead of the whole folder on it?
Guest mini_man Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 well this is the driver file that it needs to recognise as a smartphone usb sync device, but will it still install as tht. btw u have to unzip it first as modaco wont let me upload itWCEUSBSH.zip
Guest Transform Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 i cant try it coz the laptop i tested it on works when i plug the phone in still. there must be some files on the laptop that somehow transferred over from the pen drive. i will have to wait till i can try on a pc that doesnt already have activesync on it.
Guest mini_man Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 yeh same, damn i installed active sync on my other pc downstairs!! ill try it at a friends house
