TomTom Mobile 5 Issue

Hi

As in title really...I have acquired TomTom Mobile 5 for my SP5m, followed the upgrade process to 5.2 and the software seems to work fine...however, I have a question mark in the GPS Unit's (TomTom) bluetooth settings in the phone - hence the GPS is not being picked up.

I have tried deleting the partnership and re-connecting - no joy. The phone's bluetooth is set to discoverable...

...ideas???

Cheers

Nick

With the TomTom GPS unit you do not need to make a partnership and bond the devices as the software does it for you.

It helps if you start the GPS first then the application.

Just checking something simple, are you in flight mode?

as this will turn off the bluetooth.

...I thought Tom Tom software does not need configuring to its own GPS unit...

...I am not in flight mode and have no problems with a BT headset...(not trying to use at the same time)

I though BT had to be either on or off, not discoverable.

...is there somewhere in the menu structure to add a GPS device?

Nope as TomTom 5 only has two options, to use ot's own GPS unit or a non-tomtom unit.

Can you check that the TomTom gps is working correctly and not faulty?

...can anyone who has TomTom running on their SP5m (equivalent) or k-jam (equivalent) let me know what settings I should see for the Tom Tom GPS unit...

...ok...TOP TIP...let the GPS unit get a fix before starting to use it!!!

I just went out with the dog and thought I'd give this one last chance...turned on the GPS unit and walked for a while...then started the application - guess what...now works perfectly...

I feel like such a dumb*ss!!! So why doesn't it say on the box to do this?

I have a T-Mobile SDA II with TomTom Mobile 5.2 installed, but it won't connect to my GPS(Adapt 300) module. Anyone any other suggestion? I tried everything in this thread so far.

Have you tried with the original TomTom GPS?

Just thought i would add my little bit to this thread. I think of myself as quite an IT literate person but this stumped me for hours!! meaning it would probably stump the average person for days! My friend has an mda vario as do I. He tried to connect his FTECH-SPP Bluetooth GPS to his Mda for about 4 days and connected it by accident! He had problems with tom tom and checkpoint so he decided to reinstall everything which took off all the Bluetooth com settings etc. He tried and tried so I offered to help. 5 hours later it is connected!!!!!

here is how i did it for anybody that is interested:

- Pair up Bluetooth devices. I needed to enter 0000 as the passcode for the ftech-spp. Tick the serial box when it has connected and ok to that.

- Click the com ports tab and click outgoing port. Choose the ftech-spp and com 6. tick the secure box and ok that

- Choose incoming port and put that to com 7, tick the secure box and ok that.

- Go to start > settings > connections > GPS

- On the programs tab choose com 8 (this will share the gps to all progs that want it)

- On the hardware tab choose com 6 with a baud rate of 9600. ok that

- Now start tom tom. Go to Change preferences (screen 1/3) > Show GPS status (screen 4/6)

- Click configure

- Choose other Bluetooth GPS and select and continue.

- Choose com 8 and done.

- Now shut it all down and switch bluetooth off. Turn Bluetooth back on. Then fire up the gps box. Meanwhile open tom tom. It should all connect within about 20 seconds… woooo and yay

Good advice for TomTom Navigator Wilfy but this thread is about different software on a different OS. It's about TomTom Mobile on Windows Mobile for Smartphone. As a result the setup process is largely different...

...oh, and TomTom Mobile 5 is not available without a TomTom GPS, unlike TomTom Navigator :?:
