TORQ warning

Some may remember that back at the start of October '05 I wrote glowingly of my shiny new TORQ P100.

For those of you that don't know, the P100 is an Eten M500, rebadged for the US market.

As any Eten owner will tell you, it's a cracking little PDA phone which works really nicely.

"He's really happy with his PDA," you're all thinking, "why the warning?"

Well here's the warning: There is no warranty cover in the UK.

I dropped my P100 and broke it, so I sent it off to the mobile phone insurance company that covered it.

I called them after a couple of weeks of silence to find out what was happening and was told that the phone had been approved for replacement, but that they could not find one in the UK.

The company that had sold mine had stopped importing them from the USA, so they offered me an Eten M600 (WiFi & Windows Mobile 5) as a substitute.

Well of course I accepted, but then asked more about my P100.

It turns out that the vendor should never have insured it, as the warranty is valid in the USA only.

Since they had insured it though, they were obliged to honour the policy.

Furthermore, the TORQ website, which has been promiosing to be "up before you know it", still isn't up 3 months and 28 days since I first looked at it.

If you have one of these PDAs, pray it never breaks down or requires technical assistance, cos you won't get it.

Also I would like to register my dissatisfaction with buymobilephones.net, AKA A1Comms, for not making it known when I bought the phone that it was not covered by any warranty.

At least they are honouring my insurance policy, which is only just out of the 3 month free-trial period.
