Guest SimonRobinson Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Earlier today (I installed the registry fix a few days ago, that enables the "E" icon, but hadn't ever seen it), the "G" GPRS icon changed to "E", and the web browsing went really fast. Are Orange trialling EDGE in the UK? BTW, this was in the Rhondda, South Wales.

Guest Jay3gsm Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Orange are indeed trialling EDGE. So far I've been unable to get an EDGE connection anywhere either where I work or live.

Guest bleep Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 were can i find this fix please ??
Guest Dunx Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Interesting artical here I think a few of the networks may roll out EDGE in the UK this year.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Orange ARE rolling out EDGE in the UK, but only on a very limited scale and as fill in for where 3G won't get to! P
Guest hoyler30589 Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 i received an edge signal at a place called muston near scarborough on the yorkshire east coast. :)

P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So what your saying is that Orange's state-of-the-art smartphones will soon get nice broadband speed downloads out in the sticks and revert to drip-drip-drip GPRS data in built up areas? Nice one Orange :?: Dave
Guest bleep Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 its a bit strange for me. I leave about 10miles from scarborough right on the sea front. I get an edge connection at home and half way to work then it drops to gprs but the connection speed seems to be slower when the edge is received. should this be right
Guest MECX Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Dont think anyone else will roll out edge to a large scale in this country, most are concentrating on HSDPA, they would rather people moved to their WCDMA (3G) networks
Guest graphic-solutions Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Hi SimonRobinson What was the registry fix you installed that envoke the EDGE on your phone ??
Guest wanderers Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Hi SimonRobinson What was the registry fix you installed that envoke the EDGE on your phone ?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is a link on Orange for this: http://www.orange.ro/services/edge.html it is however the romanian orange site. Nice to see they get better info than the UK

Guest spacerace Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 It will be interesting to see if others will roll it out, any ideas on what kind of business plan would be behind such a move? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> no definitive answer no. the article on silicon.com quotes an Orange spokesperson Deploying an EDGE network is typically a relatively inexpensive process, using an operator's existing infrastructure - with modern networks, just buying a licence from an EDGE supplier can be enough to go live.and "It's designed to be complementary to people using our 3G service. EDGE allows us to extend slightly further into rural areas. The focus is more on 3G - helping us to fill in the little areas that maybe won't get 3G for a while."
Guest graphic-solutions Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 I've now got the edge.reg file and PHM regeditor on my C600 - now what do I do ??
