Ok, I've searched through these forums and although many other people seem to have a similar problem, non of the fixes seem to work for me.

The problem in detail is this:

I have just upgraded to a C600 from a C500. I used to use Activesync 3.8 succesfully to update my contacts with Outlook.

I have now installed AS 4.1 and have noticed that the connection to the computer is now through a LAN/Network Connection (I don't know the proper technical term). The C600 is recognised by the PC. It says it is connected and ready to use and an icon appears in the system tray (by the clock) to show that it is connected, but AS does not recognise it at all!!!

If I try to connect from within AS using the 'Connect' button in 'File/Connection Settings...', I get up the connection wizard but it can't find the phone even though it says that USB is working fine.

I presume the problem is, like some other users, that I use AOL. AOL also now uses a LAN/Network Connection to talk to the broadband modem so I presume that there's a conflict somewhere.

I've tried uninstalling AS and have made sure not to connect the phone until AS was installed again, but to no avail.

If anyone can make sense of this please reply so that I can start using my new phone properly!

I had this, just got my C600 like you. Wanted to sync the contacts from my C500.

My problem was my firewall, as TCP is now used by ActiveSync to connect with phone. Check out http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/hel...nc/default.mspx

Follow the steps for your firewall software.

I've already tried to connect without my firewall but with no joy. Thanks for the link though, but even by following the instructions for my firewall (McAfee) the problem still remains. I had seen a WindowsMobile link already, but even though this one is a lot more comprehensive it's not working for me. moved.gif

Fortunately I've managed to IR a lot of my C500 files over to my C600 (with a lot of file moving and shortcut making!!), and have now IR'rd and manually entered my contacts, but I still want to be able to save my contacts to my PC and add more stuff.

I've tried everything, including a different USB cable, but I'm at my wits end wallbash.gif

I'm sure it something simple (oh god, please!) but ANY ideas would be appreciated. pray.gif

Hi,

I've also been having this issue and I've got around it by temporarily disabling ISA Firewall Client (I'm on a corporate network).

If you are using any similar apps, you could try disabling them.

HTH :-)

The really technical WM5 forums are full of this. It seems to be related to the USB as well as the TCP stack.

I struggled for hours with my new SP5 and finally gave up with the USB, but bluetooth and beaming do synchronise in the end so I'd go with these if you can stand the slow speed.

Your right. I've searched the interweb from top to bottom (well, almost!) and nothing that is suggested is working. I've tried disabling every process that isn't an MS one (including firewall) and still nothing. The computer still connects to the phone but not a peep out of AS.

Short of re-installing XP (not even an option) and starting from absolute scratch I can't see what else to do.

I might get a bluetooth dongle and go down the slow root. Shame, but hopefully MS will get their arses in gear and produce an update for AS that works - I won't hold my breath though.

Hi guys

I upgraded yesterday from a C500 to a C600 and had the ActiveSync not finding the C600 problem.

This is how I solved the problem.

The C600 needs ActiveSync 4.1 to sync correctly, but if you load 4.1 over an existing version of ActiveSync it leaves the old version drivers on your system which will not work on the C600.

Try this : Remove ActiveSync from your system using "add and remove programs" from the setting menu. When this is done, use Windows Explorer to find the folder Microsoft ActiveSync in Program Files folder and delete it ( "add and remove fails to remove this and it contains the old drivers which the new load of AS would use). Now shutdown your PC and restart it. Now load on ActiveSync 4.1 and your C600 should now talk happily to ActiveSync.

Worked OK for me, hope it work for you !!

Here is your solution.

I had the same problem. I had Microsoft Active Sync 3.8 installed on my computer.

Then I Installed the 4.0 version of the program without uninstalling the first one.

... and then the 4.1 version. This a sure way to make your computer not to be able to connect to your Smartphone.

Solution:

Uninstall all previous versions of Microsoft ActiveSync and then install the version 4.1 and RESTART the computer when the program asks you to.

And that's it your sync should work now.. hopefully.

greetings

OK guys,

Wild shot here. Did you happen to install MS Antispyware (Not WIndows Defender) after you installed activesync? If so this is why you can not sync via USB> You need to open a Run prompt and type:

netsh winsock reset

and hey presto it will start working! :)

I have had a orginal SPV, E200, C500 & now C600, and the bl dy thing won't sync to my work laptop as there is a firewall present and i don't have rights to make changes. What a step backwards....

Harp... I know that this could be a stupid question but... You did check your new network connection (it's appearing in Network Connections on your PC after phone is plugged in) to have the TCP/IP protocol checked, right? Else you'll have the phone recognized by PC but AS wont connect. You can disable all the firewalls, you can reinstall everything from scratch but if you dont have the protocol checked on this connection it wont work... For some reasons, when upgrade from other versions of AS, the network connection is there but without any protocols selected.

hi

i'm not sure if this is the same issue, or whether it's something different. i'm trying to connect my C600 to an XP Pro SP2 laptop using the USB cable and AS4.0. when i plug it in, AS window shows that the phone is connecting (as does the system tray icon) but never actually appears to connect (i.e. the logo continues to rotate). i can connect using IR, and i have the USB connection enabled on both laptop and handset, but with no success.

i did actually manage to get it to connect by cable yesterday, eventually, but have no idea what i did to ensure that it worked - it seemed to be by accident.

i'm using windows firewall, and AS is marked as an exception. i can't really do much else with the laptop, as it is heavily administered (work pc). does anyone have any ideas?

thanks
