Guest Benjamenus Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Hi Just got the m5000 (upgraded from the c500). The charger works fine in both the m5000 and the c500. The usb cable supplied (and the old one from my c500) both work with the c500, but don't seem to register with the m5000. It seems to cables and PC are fine, and it is down to the m5000 handset. Occasionally, if you wiggle the cable it does work - and I've managed to sync it. Because of the problem, I took it back to orange who replace everything. I then plugged in the new m5000 to my PC and it worked fine... the first time. Now i get the same thing again. The usb doesn't seem to work (no orange charging light). Strangely though, the PC does see that usb hardware has been plugged in. Is this a know problem. Is my handset one of a dodgy batch? Any advice appreciated. Cheers
Guest Chumley Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I'm experiencing similar myself. Received my M5000 two weeks ago now and due to other matters have only tried to ActiveSync it with my desktop and / or laptop a few times to no avail. Planning on testing thoroughly with a new Windows XP Pro install to avoid possible problems with firewalls etc. Have tried M5000 USB cable and C500 USB cable with AS 4.1 on two machines and the hardware presence was detected and it starts to charge. I understand at least Outlook 2002 is needed and have this on one machine which is the due rebuild as the XP install is getting on and slow and bloated as it were ! Will post back as soon as I can..
Guest Chumley Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 (edited) Right, managed to do a quick check on another fresh install PC (XP Pro SP2) but it doesn't have Outlook installed on it. It has Norton Internet Security 2005 with all updates on it. USB to M5000, Windows detected device and I installed Active Sync 4.1 (Microsoft download as my M5000 CD may have an older version on it). Connected straight away and as Outlook wasn't present I transferred some files which are definitely on the M5000. Anyway that is my concern addressed for now. I can only comment from experience I have had with my M5000. No matter what the connectivity as regards Active Sync were up to - the M5000 ALWAYS indicated charging (just in case I have misunderstood what's what, the red LED on the M5000 that ultimately turns green!) via USB with connection to a live PC - even did it just now when Windows itself was prompting for a driver before I installed AS 4.1. On three PCs in total. I cannot absolutely describe what the M5000 itself saw when connected as I did the Active Sync test etc. via Remote Desktop. So what has changed with your setup since your second M5000 worked first time? Any additional USB powered items on your PC together with software changes upgrades? Has the M5000 developed problems with connected PC reboots etc. possibly for some reason? It can be difficult to accurately back track on PCs. Helpful if you can try the scenario on another PC to allow easier logical conclusions for various combinations. Edited January 31, 2006 by Chumley
Guest Benjamenus Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 (edited) Hi Thanks for your help. I tried another PC and it works fine. Not sure why my PC works OK with the C500 and not the M5000, but it could be time for a rebuild. Seem to be having loads of driver problems at the moment! Just to clarify, it is the connection with the PC (i.e. the charging light doesn't come on (with the M5000) - ActiveSync worked fine. Thanks again Edited February 1, 2006 by Benjamenus
Guest Confucious Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 (edited) If ActiveSync works then you are connected to the PC! Is your USB cable plugged into the PC otr a USB Hub? Hubs can cause all sorts of problems. PS Welcome to the forums :) Edited February 2, 2006 by Confucious
