Turn off Phone capabilities Permanently

After I moved to another state and ATT left this mortal coil, my phone had to be replaced ( Audivox 4100ppc) and only 2 weeks after it had been out of the box. But the computer is still very usable. Can anyone tell me how to turn off the phone? It searches for a network as long as I let it, and if I take the simm out it has a big screen telling me to put one in, every time I reboot. I Would like to turn it off in the software but , alas I cannot figure out how to! Thanks all

yes Thanks, I do that every time I reboot . I am hoping to find a way to turn off the network card and/or software for the phone,, so I can be lazier.
