I've read on the forum that a Sony Ericsson 900i Ghost Dual Sim is compatible with the C500. Could anyone verify for me that the same item would also work with an unlocked Orange C600 SPV (as i understand the batter and cover is very similar) or offer an alternative?

I'm due to start a new job soon and will be given a work phone (O2 Nokia 6310i) I really don't want to be carrying two phones, a Loox 720 PDA and a TabletPC around with me if I can help it :).

Technology is great, but I don't fancy having to go to the gym to 'bulk up' just to carry my devices.

All help is appreciated.

So far Iv'e Tried These:

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/4989.htm - Universal Twin Sim

- Works fine with C500. Flight mode will activate the change over to avoid the wait turning on & Off completely.

- Only sees one SIM Chip with C600 - Won't Changeover unless you take it out of the phone completely & re-insert (kind of defeats the object).

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/6579.htm - Advanced Twin Sim

- Not Tried with C500 Doesn't work at all with C600 (invalid sim - sim missing messages) [-(

Just ordered one of these (albeit it will be a 6 in 1) From Ebay http://duosim.com/supersim.html - Will be with me on Saturday so I'll Post an update - Hopefully it will work [-o<

The 6 in 1 looks good, and i would be hightly interested in knowing if it works

because it would also be a cure for those people with multiple phones, not wanting to swap sims..

Same goes for me.

I conducted a quick search of ebay and ended contacting Alex at www.freeyourmobile.com regarding the range of dual sim devices available on the site.

He could only state that he'd not tried out the C600 :D (Obviously doesn't know what he's missing :)).

I guess something will arise sooner or later... just feel so impatient.

Hi All,

Bad News I'm Afraid.

The Multi sim Reader couldn't scan the necessary data from any of my original SIM cards, and it's flinkin toasted my O2 SIM after taking 6 HOURS!! to scan it

:-({|= (gona cost me a tenner to get a new one)

So its going back for a refund. :)

Has anyone else had any success with a Twin SIM adapter in the C600??

wish i'd read this sooner.... The dual sim devices are fine because you physically connect both sims. It just electrically switches between them using whatever method - switch on/of, application toolkit, a particular packet eg. writing to phone book location 1.

The 6 in 1, 16 in 1 etc read the Ki key from your sim card. This ONLY works with COMP128 v1 cards - thats the only algorithm that they have found a flaw in. Nearly every decent operator has countermeasures for this now:

Vodafone UK: Use COMP128 v1, but use 3 rounds - 3DES

T-Mobile: Not sure about them

Orange: Use COMP128 v2 - no way to extract keys from this

O2: Use a Ki counter. The sim can only service x million ki requests. Its statisitcally very unlikey for you to find the key in this many attempts. Crossing this number kills the sim. In normal use that many ki requests would take years.

You can only expect networks in poorer countries to be using COMP128 v1, primarily because the old equipment is resold from here, and sim fabrication companies which don't have the money to invest in a new die for have to sell their COMP128 v1 cards at bargain prices.

I reckon maybe a General Warning should be pinned about this for those not in the Know.

Its a shame really that i didn't do a bit more research before Trying the scanner.

The software doesn't give you any warnings about exceeding the number of iterations to fint the Ki value. Just wish i'd given up after the first try.

I dont know why its proving to be so difficult to get hold of a twin sim adapter that works with the C600. Even my C500 ones don't work!! What can be so different about the SIM interface?!

Just found another Website Claiming Ghost Sims that work on ALL spvs, so i emailed them asking if they could confirm if it had been tested with the C600. They replied "not tested on that model yet".....so not ALL spvs then Grrr!! :frown:

As any one else tried any others woth C600 yet?? ](*,)

Sorry Matey,

Wasn't paying attention first time round. I think its because it looks exactly the same as the one i got from mobilefun that didn't work with the C600.

For £3.99 im gona order one & Give it a try with the C600. Feeling hopeful as it is essentially the same fone as the SP5.

Here we go again!!

The sim interface is the same as are the commands, but thats not the real issue.

As per the standard (ISO7816 and GSM 11.11) the phone is NOT required to reset and re-read all the fields of the SIM on an error or bad response.

So if your sim were to fail while in use, the phone would reset the sim and repeat only the commands it needs to.

To break this down a bit more imagine a single sim and this scenario:

1) put sim in phone and boot up.

> phone reads IMSI and ICC (serial numbers identifying your sim)

2) phone fully booted

> phone reads phone book and SMS at low priority, any call specific commands take priority because this can take some time - hence the 'sim not ready' message if u try to access the sim phone book to early

3) you make a call

> phone sends GSM challenge to your sim, and sim replies it makes a call.

4) sim error

> here is the key part. The phone may simple reset the sim and repeat from step 2, OR it may repeat from step 1.

In order to switch sim cards without rebooting the phone, you need cause an error which restarts from step 1 because you need it to read the IMSI and ICC from your second sim.

Because the standard doesnt say that you MUST repeat from step 1 in any particular condition, the makers of the dual sim device need to get a phone and test each type of error and hope on one the phone re-reads. If there isnt one, then there can be no switch of sim without re-booting.

I hear your next question coming.. why doesnt any dual sim device work by rebooting the phone then?

The question is how does the dual sim device figure out u rebooted?

It can toggle ever reset of the sim, but what if the particular phone resets the sim twice normally? you would end up always with sim 1.

Another problem is that the clock to the card can be within a wide range. If the dual sim device isn't made for the range of your phone it may not work. This is usually a problem for cheaper devices which use fixed internal clocks.

Because what you are doing doesn't fall into any conditions in the standard you need different workarounds depending on how the phone behaves in error conditions.

hope that clears it up for u.

Oh and the ki thing.. the program brute forces the key. The key is protected by the sim. By asking it to encrypt a certain packet a few million times, you can find the key. This is a flaw in COMP v1, and it's not possible to find it in one ki query, unless you're very very lucky!

Thanks for that, it clears it up in my head as to what is happening.

I am hoping that this one will work. As the Mobile fun unit didnt even boot and just gave invalid sim messages.

We'll see.....

---EDIT---

Is it the Phone Hardware that determines how the SIM is operated or is it software driven..

i.e. i am running the imate rom in my c600 so should it operate as the imate?

bloody 'ell!

This is all getting a bit complex, but still interesting to find out what the dual sim device is trying (or not as the case may be) to do.

So how about a back to basics approach and look for a dual sim with a physical hardware switch built in. I used to have a similar device on my old Nokia 6310i dual sim thingie.

Anyone know of a manufacturer who produces such a device compatible with the C600.

There must be a workaround some how, but maybe we're all 'just to early' adoptors :)

The commands should come from software, but the clock speed with be defined by hardware. Nearly every phone uses the same SIM control IC which generates a clock based on a crystal specific to that phone. So if by using the other rom it accepts the sim, the clock is most likely the same. In that case it should work with the same phone your rom is for. Short answer yes it will operate as an i-mate.

Dual sim is realllllllllly easy to make so its just a matter of time before one comes out thats compatbile, but its all about demand. If there isnt enough demand for that phone then there's no great incentive for the makers to go test it and modify the code. I could make a dual sim device for you if you want - either using a microcontroller (you would need a programmer for the MCU) or a mux and a flip flop (no programmer needed), but the real problem is making it in a usefull form factor. I dunno, if anyone wants to give me the pinout of the one you got, plus the MCU model thats on there i could make you some code to replace on that chip. Most likely the programmer could be made at home with some simple components too.

Thanks Kam... Like you said it's having the bits to create a useful Form Factor. There is zero extra space in the back of the C600.

Still waiting for delivery of the Imate Twin Sim at the mo. (and also my fresh o2 Sim...Grr...)

Once i've got them all together & can test it i'll post an update & take it from there.

Hopefully the STC hardware in the C600 will match the i-mate's and with any luck it'll work out of the box with the i-mate ROM [-o<

The Twin SIM Found by rsearley for his SP5

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/i-Mate-SP5-SP5m-Ghos...1QQcmdZViewItem

Works in my SPV C600 !!!! =D> (Running imate ROM - not tested with orange ROM)

Have carried out multiple changeovers and it works fine each time.

It doesn't have a utility available in the Menus or STK to do a changeover via software. You do have to power off the sim & power on again within a few seconds to change as with my original C500 twin.

HOWEVER ... You can also carry out the Quick change over by flicking flight mode on & off which has the same effect of disconnecting the SIM but without having to wait for the phone to shutdown & re-boot. I can change from one sim to the other in less than 30 seconds.

Success at last.

Oops! sorry, didn't realise the ebay link had expired. #-o

Looks Like The sellers ebay shop is : M-99 Shop.

I think you can do a search or ask a question for the Twin Sim.

Its the i-Mate-SP5-SP5m-Ghost dual sim that I purchased. Probably best to ask the seller to confirm the right kit.

Hi,

Link to the Ebay store where i got mine: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/M-99-Shop

I only paid £3.99 for mine on a 'Buy It Now', if you do a store search for 'dual sim' there are tons on there. I couldn't find the i-Mate-SP5-SP5m-Ghost dual sim one tho at the moment so, as i said it's probably best to send the seller an ebay message to find out. they may well be out of stock?

Well after receiving my work phone I'm completly dismayed! :D

They gave me a crusty old Nokia that is so old it doesn't have a camera or even bluetooth  tight b@stards.

I've decided to stick the vodaphone sim in SPV, but will probably end up using the work phone for most calls, yeah screw for every penny :).

As result I'm gonna change my personal phone plan to a lower off peak rate and pick up a SDAII.

Does anyone know if the duel sim cards also work with a C550/SDAII?

Google, e-bay and searching the forums didn't show any conclusive info.

Hi,

I've been reading you posts with a lot of interest. I've got a new question to add to the thread.

I've got a C600 with a Standard Orange sim in it. I also own an Orange 3G data card which takes a USIM card.

I can put the USIM into my C600 and take advatage of the GPRS connection it provides.

As I already pay a a mint for my data card, I normally swap out my 3G sim into my phone if i'm gonna be using my phone for browsing a lot.

I wanted to know if it would be possible to put both my 2G and 3G card into some sort of dual sim adapter to save the swapping around. Also, to do this I would need to clone my 3G sim.

Any ideas.... GO!!!!

Anyone got one confirmed working for the 550 without power off?
