Guest SSR Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Hi folks, I've upgrade to Orange's latest 4.2.1.4 firmware... but is there a generic firmware upgrade somewhere for an HTC Typhoon that's an equivalent or higher version, but without all the Orange crap (startup screens, themes, and other junk). TIA
Guest mossywell Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 ...but is there a generic firmware upgrade somewhere for an HTC Typhoon <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I suspect that HTC have a "generic" firmware locked away somewhere, but it's worth remembering that each service provider customises the firmware to their own needs before shipping the phones. So, whichever one you go with, it'll have some degree of customisation. That said, I suspect some are more generic than others. Any offers, anyone? If you just want to kill off the Orange stuff (e.g. for Vodafone), you can unpick most of the settings manually - it only takes a few minutes (less time that it's taking me to type this reply at 5 charachers a minute!). Somewhere in modaco, I posted all the settings I could find to do this, though IIRC I didn't include the Orange logo at boot up because it's a bit of a hack. (SPV Developers have a tool for it somewhere.)
Guest jabbrwcky Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 is there a generic firmware upgrade somewhere for an HTC Typhoon <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's true that there's no such thing as 'generic' firmware. Having said that, the firmware made by Imate for the SP3 (their version of the Typhoon) is about as generic as it comes, plus it's very well written and seems to run a lot faster than any other I've tried on my C500. You can get the SP3 firmware from ftp.clubimate.com (it's a big list, look for the file called SP3_WWE_2.4.33.11.exe - it worked for me). Once you've got that, the rest of the process is well documented here on Modaco at this page: http://www.modaco.com/Install_newest_QTek_...00-t207547.html Have fun :)
Guest Madeye Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 The imate rom is good, i had it on my imate sp3, but I installed the qtek rom and it appeared to be faster / better! Your choice tho!
Guest JuHalls Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 where do you get the qtek rom from then?
Guest fluffcat1 Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 where do you get the qtek rom from then? http://www.qtekcorp.com/support.aspx But you need a valid Qtek IMEI. Richard
