Automatically Logging into Wifi Services

Hello Everyone

This is my first post :).

I have been trying to look for a WM5 app that would enable me to enter my wifi login credentials and when the device finds an access point, to automatically login to the providers network.

Ill elaborate:

Say i have a BT Openzone voucher, i would like the app to have a list of BT Openzone partners (T-Mobile, ........) and when it sees any of these networks in the Available Wireless network list, to go away and login to the network in the background using my username/password.

To login to the bt openzone network from a T-Mobile access point i would normally click on a partner link, which would take me to the BT login page, so im guessing that all partner login sites are available from all partner access points.

This probably sounds a bit unclear so if you don’t understand any part of it, or perhaps have identified an error in any of my assumptions please comment. And most important of all if anyone knows of such software that can do this for the windows mobile 5 (Smartphone) platform please reply :D.

Many Thanks for your time.

Jay

Welcome to the forums jayz1220.

Don't believe that's possible (yet). Besides you need to have WiFi enabled all the time and that's not to good for battery life. You need an application that scans for WiFi networks all the time (again, that would be doing something with battery life) and AFAK something like that is only just around for the PPC platform.

Out of curiousity, what benefit would you get from such functionality?

Hello Roma,

Thanks for the reply. You are correct in the battery life assumption. I have been using the handset for a few days now, and it is clear that the battery drains very quickly if it is set to stay on all of the time. I guess its better to state that perhaps the application could just go do it automatically then, maybe when you know you are in a Wifi serviceable area it could find of the access points and login to the service automatically.

You asked why i might want such a feature, simply put GPRS is expensive, and as I already have a bt openzone account for my laptop i thought it would be nice to make use of it on my mobile. These days when i am in the city i am nearly always in reach of a service provider access point.

Anyway ill keep my eyes open, have had a play with the compact .net sdk, never know i might even work out how to implement it one day :)

Regards

Jay
