T9 Correction

I apologize if this has already been covered. I couldn't find it.

So I finish typing an SMS message and find that one of the words is the wrong word (i.e., T9 picked the wrong word and I was too busy typing to notice). No problem, I go back to highlight the word and correct the problem, but there's no way to highlight it! I have to erase the entire word and retype it. How annoying.

Has anyone found a way to highlight an existing word and bring up the list of possible word matches such that the correct word can be selected?

Not yet possible in SmartPhones, and been this way since the first ever Original Orange SPV all tose years ago.
