Guest Toonie Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Sorry to keep asking questions, but another thing I'm confused about, is that on Imate's website: http://www.imate.com/t-DETAILS_JAMIN.aspx There is no mention of Pocket Excel or Pocket Word. I'm sure I read somewhere on a press release (from Imate) that these are included. Can anyone clarify if these are come with it? Or is this something that is optional, depending on where I buy it? Many Thanks, Toonie.
Guest netimpact Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Pocket Excel and Pocket Word are standard application comes with Windows mobile 5.
Guest Toonie Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Hi there, this is something that has always confused me about the various different versions of Windows Mobile. It was my understanding that whilst the Office module is a part of WM5, it was still an option that a vendor could choose. My current phone, an SP3i does not, but my ald iPAQ (now on its last legs) does. If what you are saying is correct, then does that mean that even products like the SP5, without the touchscreen, have Office? Basically, I am looking for a replacement for both my old iPAQ HP4150, and my SP3i with a single device. I am right on the edge of ordering a JAMin. Many Thanks, Toonie.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 There are 2 different Windows Mobile platforms, Pocket PC and Smartphone. Old iPaq = Pocket PC SP3i = Smartphone Pocket PC = more fully featured Smartphone = more phone-centric, better one handed use. The JAMin is a great device :) P
Guest Toonie Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Hi Paul thanks again for your reply. Your comments about the different versions of Windows mobile were roughly in line with my conceptions. I understood though, that with the Prophet, the OS in this case, was not cut down in anyway compared to the PocketPC edition ? Which was why I was seeking clarification of the Office apps being in place. In the end, I'm still not sure what to go for. The Prophet at £435 (give or take), or go for an Acer N311 PocketPC (£235 at Komplett) device to replace my failing iPAQ and hold on to my Smartphone. I like the idea of that 3.7" VGA res screen. I'm not interested in signing up for a new contract, as I'm really pleased with my tarriff. I'm with T-Mobile, and get 750 minutes included minutes off-peak, which starts at 6pm, and wap/internet calls via CSD count as included minutes. I pay 11 quid a month for this. As ever, I apreciate your comments, and I'll let you know which way I go. Best Regards, Toonie.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 What about GPRS on your current contract? P
Guest Toonie Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 What about GPRS on your current contract? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> True, I can use GPRS, and I know it would be quicker and all, but it would cost extra. I know CSD is slower, but for email, and the kind of sites I would visit on a mobile, it really is good enough. Regards, Toonie.
