Guest Chunky Monkey Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 & SPV C550, can either or both be plugged into a external screen? I have just go my M500 & love it. I keep finding new 'stuff' everyday. (No I havent read the manuals! lol) I am now running Tomtom on it & thought the other day how nice it would be if it could be plugged into a bigger screen. This would be particualy useful as I use it as a entertainment unit too, my MP3 player is now redundent, & for playing move clips. So can either of the phones be plugged into a external video screen? Cheers :)
Guest Confused Stu Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 They can't support an external screen exactly, but you can watch the phone's screen on a bigger screen. Just connect up your phone (either one) to your PC either via cable or bluetooth and get Activesync running. Now run the PowerToy "Activesync Remote Display" that you can download for free from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...ds/ppctoys.mspx Now you've got the phone's screen displayed on your PC (try clicking on the screen or using the PC's keyboard too!). The only thing is you can't change the resolution, so you can zoom in but it just gets blockier. Even if you run a video in a higher resolution than the phone has, it'll just show what the phone's screen shows - eg 320 x 240. Try it, you'll see what I mean, but this may work for what you're after? Good luck.
Guest Chunky Monkey Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 yes I've seen that software the other night, the main problem is that it needs a PC to run. I was thinking about connecting it to a 7~10" LCD screen in a car. Just wondered if anyone handy with a soildering iron might have knocked something up.
Guest Confused Stu Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Never seen or heard of anything, but fully prepared to be proven wrong!! :) The problem is that the mini USB port on these devices is a slave port only rather than a master or master/slave one. To my untechnical mind, this means the phone can be used BY another device, but it can't use another device itself. This means you can see the screen on a PC as the PC does the controlling, but you can't use the phone to control another device - such as a screen. I'll guess you're gonna need to go shopping for an Archos for what you're thinking!
Guest Chunky Monkey Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 (edited) yeh, the shame of it is with a 1Gb card the M500 is so nearly one of those, as well as doing everything else too. Again not being of the techincal knowhow, I thought that a piece of software could take the display output & fire it out of the USB port on the bottom & then a cable that converted the USB to composite, single cable nice & easy. But a if, as you say, the USB port is a Master job then it'll probably not work. I think we need a programmer on here! lol :) Edited February 9, 2006 by Chunky Monkey
