Guest Elijah2104 Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 One of the "features" of windows xp is that it generates a thumbnail image for folders that contain pictures and also music (e.g. the album cover). Not something that I could personally care less about but it's there anyway. I've just recently bought an XDA Mini S and I've tried to copy one of these folders onto the storage card and it gives me the error: "Cannot copy folder: Access is denied Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and that you have permission to copy this file type." This is total rubbish. It creates the folder structure on the card but won't copy the files. I can, however, copy them by selecting the files themselves. Now here is the thing. If I were to create a new folder tree on my PC, which doesn't have these thumbmail images and then place the files in them, I can drag that folder straight across to the phone and it copies without a problem. Do you know how I can copy these folders across without having to recreate my entire music collection structure again? If not that, does you know how I can prevent my PC from using any kind of thumbnail image ever?! Whatever happened to a nice standard directory??? :) Oh, by the way, I'm using active sync 4.1 and the XDA mini uses windows mobile 5.0 (in case you didn't already know). Thanks in advance.
Guest Elijah2104 Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Funny what you can do when you're less tired. I've found the solution to this little puzzle. Although I find it curious that last night, I couldn't see the offending files yet today they were visible, as clear as day. All sorts of clues pointed to this, yet they were brushed off because the files remained hidden, even with Show Hidden/System Files checked. Each of the folders contained various jpg files like AlbumArt....jpg and folder.jpg and also desktop.ini. Now for some reason Active Sync 4.1 doesn't like copying system files so when it encountered these files when I tried my copy, it had a hissy fit. Not sure why Active Synce feels that way about sytem files but certainly for the mean time, deleting these files has done the trick. I'm about to reboot to see if they reapper. Even if they do, at least there is a short term solution if Microsoft ever decide to do something about these files. Hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem (although judging by the lack of responses, I'm guessing I'm the only one doing things the hard way!)
