Guest bleep Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 ok so ive got the imate sp5 on my phone, but ive tried to install the antivirus program but it dont work. is anyone using an antivirus program on there phone if so and how good is it ..
Guest roma0803 Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Don't use it. It slows down your phone and presents annoying messages that you need to update the virussignatures. There's no virus reported (yet) for Windows Mobile so there's no need to run it for now. No way to know it's any good since it has nothing to do yet :)
Guest Tech Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 I disagree with you there anti virus software is a must regardless - not doin so can cause unwanted things to happen - regardless available for that platform or not for example, what happens if you go on the internet via gprs or something and something gets downloaded to the phone? specifically for that phone for example or even perhaps a simple virus? I certianly wouldnt want it to send my contacts random text messages, blank phone calls or something of that nature
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 I have to definately disagree with you tech, as yet there is not reported virus for the Smartphone and these applications are playing on peoples fear rather than doing any good. What is this application supposed to protect you against when there is nothing for it to protect against. Viruses on this format would be hard to spread as you would have to install the infected file in the first place. The only reported virus about is for the Symbian OS and that was about two years ago when people tried to get a "free" version of some software. Antivirus on a PC now that's another matter. but on a Smartphone it's just a waste of space and resources.
Guest roma0803 Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 To download something I have to agree first. If I don't, there's no download. I do not download things I do not know. For now AV for Windows Smartphone is not needed, for now that is.

I do often wonder what's in the signature files in the imate / CA antivirus. Probably just random text.... Richard
