Save Money on Fuel (UK)

hi people,

say this scheme on the news last night, and thought I'd do my bit to help them along! I'm always a fan of saving money. (god that makes me sound tight!).

Anyway, they are following a scheme that was launched somewhere in europe, whereby a large group of people got together to bargain for cheaper petrol from a major petrol distributor. It's no scam, just people power at it's best!

At present they are asking people to register on their site, and have agreed a deal in principal with a major UK petrol distributor allowing members between 5 and 10p off per litre. All they need is more names registered on the site to complete the deal!

So check it out at Pipelinecard.org.

By registering on the Pipeline website, you agree to receive any messages that are sent to you in relation to fuel discounts and other Pipeline activities.

That bit leaves you open, while they say they will not spam they do not disclose what the "other Pipeline activities" are.

Fuel bunkering is nothing new, almost every haulage company uses it for diesel. Filling stations aren't keen on it for petrol as they don't get the revenue for 30 days and only get paid the 'trade' price - it works for Diesel as they get high turnover from the haulage fleets and they have associations / unions to apply pressure, but I can't honestly see it working for petrol - you'll likely get one brand accepting the filling card and odds are there won't be one near you - so unless someone like the AA endorses it I can't see it getting off the ground really but I hope it does.

Can I have 99 Ron bioethanol / petrol for my TT or is it just 95 Ron stuff?

Same sort of scheme for Gas perhaps?

Been a member since December. Still not sure it's going to amount to anything although popularity might help...

As for www.petrolprices.com, that site directed me to a fuel station near mine which was allegedly selling unleaded at 85p a litre. Surprise surprise, when I arrived it was actually 90.9p a litre :)

I tend to stick with the local stations which I absolutely KNOW from experience sell the cheapest fuel...

From the FAQ...

Our fuel data is gathered from Fuel Card users. When they purchase fuel with their card, we know what type of fuel they bought and how much it cost. Since there are tens of thousands of fuel card users in the UK, we are able to update our prices at around 8,000 stations each and every working day.

So it looks like someone with the card hasn't visited your local petrol station for a while, so the database wasn't updated.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The price on www.petrolprices.com was dated four days before. But could petrol price really go from 85p a litre to over 90p a litre in four days?! I don't doubt it could, but in this case I doubt it did... :?:
