Universal or Wizard?

I'm thinking of investigating the ppc platform as I've only been a smartphone guy up to now, I want a qwerty keyboard and am probably going to end up going for one of these two devices. At the moment I'm leaning towards the universal but I'd like to hear all your opinions on the pros and cons of each, and which one you think is better?

Thanks, James

The main thing for me is the size of the device, the wizard is more usable as a phone, but the universal has a better screen.

I use both but the wizard is my day to day device.

IMO the universal is a laptop replacement that acts as a phone, the wizard is a phone-ish device that can work as a laptop-ish device. It depends on what you will use it for. If it's your main communication tool I'd get the wizard as it's small and neat, if you have a main phone - smartphone or otherwise, I'd get a universal to act as a 'data' device. I carry them both because I find both usefull

Im in the same predicament....the majority of people say the vario.....

My plan is to goto my local o2 shop (as they sell both devices) and have a play with both....as i already have a few ppc's im lookin at the universal (screw the size) but again for every comms, the vario/wizard is top dog....

Cheers Richard, yeah I would still be using my c550 and I'd be using the ppc more for it's laptopy features, wifi etc. Think I may end up going for the universal (I'll wait to see what Paul says in his review though :) ) if I can find it for the right price. One big issue with it is backwards compatibility though I hear.

There are lots of good programs out for ppc already and I'd like to play age of empires, play snes games, etc but I believe these don't see to work correctly. What are your experiences with backwards compbatibility, are there many things taht work in full vga??

James

PS. @nevawlkalone, not a bad idea, I may wander into o2 and have a play as well, thanks!

Not only the size is of importance. I would give you the same advice. go for the universal. bigger screen better keyboard size. but another thing is the price.

there is a big difference between the price of a wizard and a universal. if the universal is not in your budget then go for the wizard because it's a good alternative.

Ok cheers for the advice so far guys, one more question for universal users, I want to make the most of the vga screen and I'm just wondering have you installed the true vga tweak, is it complicated to do and is it worth it??? (Side-effects etc.)

Thanks again, James

The Wizard.

I have no desire to carry a device as large as the universal, so I am willing to sacrafice speed and display res.

I want a Pocket PC Phone with VGA and a more traditional form factor! Doesn't have to be small as the Magician/Charmer/Prophet but don't think I could get on with the Universal's mini laptop form so... :)

Personally I like the form factor, and the mini laptop design (apart from if you were to make a call with it), you gotta get a headset. :)

Thing that puts me off the wizard is the processor, but I don't wanna pay loads when the next gen (HTC atom I think?) comes out.

So a more few questions:

1. Wizard - How is the processor??

2. Both - Compatibilty??

3. Universal - Default VGA or real VGA and why??
