SMS problems on C600

SMS on my C600 has been working for the first few weeks but yesterday when trying to compose a message the screen wouldn't progress any further to allow me to enter a recipient and message content.

I can goto my contacts and select a person to text to but am then presented with a FULL SCREEN with the letters SMS at the very top, one big white box and then the SEND button on the bottom left and the MENU on the bottom right.

There is no box for a recipient and moving the cursor into the big white box between won't allow me to enter any text for the message either!

Any ideas guys?
