a long time back now my e100 died for no reason. it just wouldnt turn on. i was advised on here to try lots of different methods to restore it but it was all to no avail. i was just wondering if there has been a solution since this happened (about a year ago). i have a perfectly nice phone but i just need the operating system on it for it to work. can anyone help me?

Hey there buddy, I'm pretty new to posting in this forum so not sure what you tried a year ago, but have been an SPV user since the 1st SPV was released (currently on C550).

It may be worth trying this:

go to

http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite...ature&t=Product

and follow on screen instructions to download latest rom version for the E100 and install it to your handset.

As I understand it, the handset just needs power so it will switch on while in the cradle, even with no operating system.

Hope this helps you,

WildcardSPV.

You can run the update without Activesync connected as long as the device is connected and it's in the bootloader screen (the three colour screen you've mentioned).

only thing is, is that when i plug it in the hardware wizard finds it but says that a problem occured and it may not function properly :) any ideas?

Yep. Ensure the firewall is off, that the cradle is plugged straight into the usb port on your desktop, and run the update.

If all else fails, try opening task manager and closing the 'WCESCOMM.EXE' process. You will see the activesync icon disappear from your toolbar, but with some SPV apps the h/s can still be accessed via the cradle when this has been done.

BTW

have you tried a hard reset?

So the update succesfully completes but it still goes straight into bootloader rather then boot up normally?

The SPV E100 is put into bootloader mode by holding the voice recorder button while powering on. I suppose it's possible that button is stuck down or faulty and constantly registering (so sending the device into bootloader everytime you turn the device on)...

From discussing this on messenger with Transform, he's suggested his E100 device updates with the 'phone screen showing update progress upto 100%. What's peculiar though is he reckons the E100 update on the desktop is then telling him to disconnect the device and remove the battery for 30 seconds before reattaching it.

Anyone ever heard of an update doing this? Admittedly I've never had an E100 but the original SPV and E200 updates certainly never did this...

...and the 1.6 update was for both the original SPV AND the SPV E100...

Only time I've had something similar was with a Typhoon that pretended to update but would not proceed past the bootloader, but the bootloader did not display the IPL revision etc. Turns out it was a corrupt bootloader and the only way to fix was a factory flash via JTAG which HTC did under warranty while fixing something else on the phone. 8)

On the bootloader screen what info does it give you?
