Everytime I try, I get "unable to connect" error message. Using Smart Explorer or the C600 software.

I too get "unable to connect" error message. Seems that my phone wont connect to anyone elses nor will it allow others to connect to mine!

What is the C600 Software you are talking about?

He'll be referring to the pre-installed File Manager.

I've transferred files both ways, both to a D500 and a Kxxx, using Smart Explorer. We did have 'unable to connect' problems intermittently but usually got things through.

In Settings, Beam have you got 'Receive Incoming' ticked ?

Apart from the obvious BT settings I don't think I had to make any other adjustments.

I think the trick is to let the phone finish searching for devices, when it has done that it seems to work.

If I try before it has finished the search I get the error message. :??:

Have the same issue with my C600. Disco Stu, I knew that "receive incoming beams" is for IR not BT, therefore I never used it for BT. Are you sure it's affecting the BT? I couldn't transfer even if I've paired the 2 devices in BT settings and added the device in my list.

Can anyone post something like a step-by-step instructions?

Thanks

Theres really nothing too it,

"receive incoming beams" definetly is BT and Infrared

Definition Beam : File transfer of both IR and BT both pushing files out at the same time

I have never sent anything via IR as its always "unable to connect" but using Smart Explorer with BT ive never had any trouble.

Simply open Smart Explorer and select "Send & Recieve" and then Send file by IR/BT and it will scan for BT and IR signals. It will then ask you if you would like to activate your BT and clicking "yes" will turn it on.

Its easy with the phone File Explorer, Activate your BT to ON/DISCOVERABLE, You locate the file you want to send, Click Menu, Send and Beam it then also searchers for IR and BT Signals.

Simple!

If people are not your what i meen by BT and IR

BT : Bluetooth Long Distance file transfer

IR : Infrared Short Distance file transfer

Mini-man's guide is better than anything I could come up with.

I've only ever transferred files while half-pissed in the pub and, as I suggested above, it took a lot of trail & error. Both of us had to go through the process of changing and checking settings and you lose track of what actually works in the end. Eventually though we were swapping pictures and short videos like it was going out of fashion !

Also I'm pretty sure that we managed to get infra-red transfers working though there was a problem with file-compatibility at each end. I seem to remember not being able to open Nokia v-cards and him not being able to play wavs.

I'm experiencing problems in these tasks:

1) Receiving files from other phones: when a phone connects, the SP5m first asks for the passkey, then forcedly goes into a wizard configuring every setting... meanwhile the other phone has already reported "error sending file"

2nd try is generally a success, except for a samsung phone that keep saying "Unable to find services for the phone"

2) Sending files to Motorola's: they're limited to a maximum 1-minute of bluetooth discoverability per time.

When they show up in the beam-to list, they disappear within 10 seconds because the SP5m keeps searching, and the motorola is already hidden.

I had a hard time sending an MP3 to a motorola, took me 4 retries to get connected!!! :|

3) Cannot send media files when the file is opened within WMP ... it says "Unable to open file...", or it suddenly shuts down the beam application.....

Since WMP does not close nor release the file when I stop playing it, I need to open another media file, or to go to the task manager and terminate it... its bugging me a bit...

I-mate has included this bug in their "known bugs" list for the sp5m...

There's not much you can do about those three.

You just have to accept that there are limits to what Bluetooth is capable of and that different devices are not always capable of the same things. :)

That makes sence as the file is being viewed so you will just have to close it.

Ive always had a crappy time sending and recieving files with samsungs cos of there damn passkeys!

Tip : Always Pair or Bond with a Samsung before sending or recieving files, it clears up all the messes and is so much smoother.

limited to a maximum 1-minute of bluetooth discoverability per time.

Motorolas also suck when it comes to bluetooth, they only have a minute of life then they hide, another problem with them is that they are so damn SLOW when sending or reciving files!!

it took me 1 hour 30 min to send a 5mb file! n then i deleted on their phone by accident :) they wernt to pleased

No it doesn't make sense because Beaming a file doesn't mean "writing" it meanwhile it's read by WMP.... it means reading it and sending via BT. If it was opened in readonly mode (for beaming) there would have been no problem.

Anyway, i-mate has got this listed as a "known bug" ... I hope they fix asap.....

Actually, most phones are giving errors on 1st try.

When I cleared up the wizard for the samsung phone, and then tried another time from it, it asked whether to establish a serial connection... I let it not, and now every time it says "Unable to find services"

Sending to the samsung makes no problem, but the reverse was impossible.

Can you explain me what's the difference between Pair and Bond?

thanks

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

1) Make an option to disable the annoying and useless wizard

1a) Fix all these BT bugs & malfunctions (error with samsung's, error sending on 1st try.......)

2) Make BT scan in the beam screen a bit more relaxed or disable it.... no one needs the bluetooth-updated list every 10 seconds....

It's not BT that's not up to spec, it's the BT implementation that is like a "draft" ....

mini_man your definition didn't convinced me so far :) The "receive incoming beams" is the setting from the "Settings" menu and I could pair with another device without activating it. Ive used it only if I wanted to transfer a file via IR. Also in your steps above you didn't say anything about going to "Settings" and activate that option. Don't tell me it's activated automatically when you transfer a file cause it isn't (can check during transfer by pressing "Home" button the navigate to the setting. You'll see it's off)

I've tried already several times the way you said (from File Explorer), the BT devices shows in the list (first with the number code then with the device name) but when the transfer screen appears, after few secs. the message "could not connect appear"

I'll keep trying different ways maybe I'll be lucky and find a way that works every time.

I have similar problems with transfering anything between 2 C600.

One C600 has I-mate software. The other has Orange software.

I managed to pair them.

But when i try to send a file from C600 with orange the application crashes and tries to send report to microsoft. When i tried to send from C600 with i-mate it just remains like that. Nothing is send

Any suggestions please?

The bluetooth implementation of current WM5 OS is very buggy and incompatible.

I've had problems sending files to a nokia n-gage, and receiving from a samsung phone..... all problems related to my phone because my old phone (a motorola E1000) workd perfectly.

Someone says this is a bluetooth limitation, but I think it's thanks to people like him that WM5 hasn't an up-to-spec bluetooth implementation...

I managed to get SPV to work and i have no problem with sending files on bluetooth. Here are what you have to do

1. Start->Settings->Connections->1. Beam

Activate "Receive Incoming beams"

2. Start->Settings->Connections->2. Bluetooth.

Activate on Discoverable and disable OBEX authenthication

3. Go to Menu->1. Devices->Menu->1. New

Pair with another device

4. I used SmartExplorer to send files with no problems

Wait until discovery has resolved the name of the device

5. I received files with no problem.

Mihai

PS: I comunicated with nokia 6230i and Moto v360

The only difference is that i've got the OBEX authentication on (and I want it on).

All the phones were paired before transfer, and Receive Incoming Beeams was on too...

But the samsung still don't work.

I haven't tried smartexplorer as I have heard of many problems...

You lot have jinxed me

I also cannot send

Have tried nokia 6230 and sony erikkson - after pressing send and selecting the device smartexplorer stays at 0% for about three mins then says cannot connect

If i turn off bluetooth and use infra red via smart explorer the files fly over

Never had this much trouble with the c500 - maybe the new update scheduled for april will have more patches than just the push email and will patch the bluetooth

I'm having problems sending files via infrared as well, I can receive files fine and BT is working (lilttle slow but working)

With the built in file manger it just stays on pend and in smart explorer i get an unable to connect message the when i try to beam again i get

"Error initializing Obex. Please restart Smart Explorer to have Orbex completely reloaded!"

Any help would be great because its starting to bug me now.

Carlos

Edit: I've got a C550 if that makes any difference.

This is OK. ;) Seding file and bt.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

This indeed fails on my device, even when talking to my desktop PC (with the same microsoft bluetooth implementation!!!)

Anyway I have to understand yet if all those bugs belong to each specific program, or to the ms bt drivers in wm5.0.

I doubt that Resco explorer, for which you pay $19, will have these superficial bugs.

On the other hand the WM 5.0 File Manager has bugs when sending via bluetooth, this is written on club i-mate support site.

So whose fault is this???
