If I remove the battery of the MPx220, will the data be erased after a while? Can I remove the battery and charge it using a desktop charger, without risking to lose the data?

Yes, no problem. The clock might reset if you leave it for weeks, but your SMS, contacts and installed apps will still be there. If you just want to recharge the battery externally then you'll be fine. Why not get a spare battery? Some ebay sellers sell them with external chargers also. Have you broken the charging port on your phone?
