Guest 3bn Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 On the home page of my c550, at the top there is a black bar that contains various icons most of which are explained in the Smartphone manual. Except for one. Immediately to the left of the [G] (GPRS indicator) I sometimes get an icon which I can best describe as a leaning handet (as if it were italic) with a short vertical squiggly line to the left and another to the right of it. I am not aware that I do anything to cause it to come or cause it to disappear. It is not always there. :?: Orange do not know about this and it is not listed in the manual. Do you happen to know exactly what this means? TIA B
Guest Chiz Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 I think I read somewhere it is to inform you of the profile setting. Might be trying to look like a vibrating phone for silent. I am sure someone else will tell you for definite soon Chiz
Guest ricardo the fish Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Chiz, your spot on there. The symbol means the phone is in silent mode. Oh and 3bn welcome to the forum.

Oh and 3bn welcome to the forum. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for the help chiz and riccardo - and for the welcome to the forum. :) See I never change the mode or anything when I see the icon; it seems to appear automatically. Just to check I put it in silent mode and got a very different icon from the one I described - what I saw was speaker with an X next to it, not the one the one that's bugging me! Hey, so I took your lead and started playing about with modes and found when I put the phone in meeting mode, I got the mysterious icon. So that's what it is. So thanks. What's spooky is I don't normally change the mode; it's usually set on automatic. The two times I saw this icon I was either coming out of a business meeting or in choir practice (a sort of meeting). So does this mean the phone has the ability to identify when there are a number of other people around me and automatically switch to meeting mode?? Spookyyyyyy  Brian

Very handy feature...

Guest Rapier Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 Hey! problem solved. It reads my diary. Excellent! Thank you. (and how come the Orange help desk didn't know this? - don't answer that; I can guess  ) B <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In fact it's not turning the device to silent but changes between two profiles; "Normal", when no appointment is in the calendar or "Meeting", when you have an appointment. After the appointment has passed it's returning you to Normal. The icon shows the phone is in "vibration" mode not "silent" (silent is as you've noticed a speaker with an "x" next to it). This is depending how you're setting the "Meeting" profile. If you're changing it to be "silent" instead of vibrating than you got another icon. P.S. The changes between profiles in "Automatic" mode are effective only if you have set the meeting time as "busy". If you set a meeting as "free" (as a reminder for ex.) the profiles wont switch.
