Hi, I need some help here :)

I got my Qtek 8310 last week and now I have litte problem to edit the startmenu.

I want the startmenu and the shorcuts in folders... for an example: iexplorer.ink in a folder called "internet" but I cant move the link to my internet folder that I have created because the iexplorer.ink is a systemfile.

I have Search the forums and found alot of treads but I really dont anderstand one of them :?:

Can some one plz make me and onthers a readme how to edit my startmenu Like I whant to do.

Thnx.

mini_man - I know that what the thread sounds like but that wasn't actually his question. :)

@McDz: Is your phone application unlocked???

Make sure it is fully application unlocked and then try it.

On some phones though (like my c550) it seems that the start menu just won't let itself be edited due to the links being system files.

Hopefully when it is unlocked, you'll be able to on the qtek 8310.

Back in the day of the e100, they let you edit it however you want...now they want you to keep crap like orange music player in the start menu. :s

That's sim unlocking. We're talking about application unlocking.

Operators and distributors like qtek like to lock the phones to cover themselves and so that you can't install anything without a certificate (therefore nothing harmful). Don't worry though as there are no ms smartphone virii/viruses so far, just download stuff from trusted sites and you'll be fine. But it also means you can't install some great free software, (as certificates cost money) as well as having limited access to system files and the registry. Donwload the sda unlocker from THIS thread to unlock your phone, and hopefully you'll be able to fiddle with the system files after.

Also it'll free your phone up to use some great apps!

Hope that helps,

James :)

That sucks, like I said it does depend on the phone and the ROM, guess there's no chance then - I've learnt to live with it. :?:

At least now your phone is unlocked to run some good freeware, sorry it didn't work for what you wanted.

You could email Qtek and advise them that people like to be able to edit their start menu's. :)

This is actually because the shortcuts are marked "System". On my i-mate SP3, you can use the built-in File Manager program to delete these. What I did is copy them to a new folder (which removes the system attribute), delete the locked one, then move the copy back. This took about 30 minutes. :)

Yeah, well on my c550 I can't remove the system attribute in anyway, and cannot delete or move the system files which is the problem. Thanks for the advice anyway though, hopefully it can work for McDz.

Hi guys,

Stumbled across your thread today, Please note this is my first post so if I do something wrong tell me!!!

I have found you can edit your Start menu as you wish if you do it on the PC via ActiveSync rather than the phone (works on my C550 anyway)

If you look at the attached pic you can see I have removed the 'Orange' folder, and deleted the 'fireplayer' shortcut, moved the Task manager onto the main menu and put all my media players into one folder.

You can also create new shortcuts for apps if you can find the exe, e.g. I used to have a shortcut to Bluetooth in my start menu (navigate to \Windows, right click on BTLaunch 'create shortcut' then move it to your start menu), but that was before I discovered the 'long press home key' method

Anyway enough waffle from me, hope this helps you, like I said it works on my C550 but wouldn't know about other devices

Steve

P.S. thanks to w4lly for another excellent homescreeen
