Guest mirageman Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Hi, I bought Tom Tom Mobile for my SPV 500 over a year ago. Initially the product worked well, but then the gps unit stopped working without being plugged into the cigarette lighter. So I sent it back and received a new unit. For some reason this unit failed entirely to lock on to a GPS signal. I left the device out in the open in my garden with a full battery charge until it had pretty much fully drained, without the unit acquiring a signal. The blue and green lights just kept on flashing. I tried this several times, with no joy. So again I returned the unit to Tom Tom, and again they sent me a replacement, which again doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong, or is the old style Tom Tom GPS unit (not that which comes with TT5) just not powerful enough? I certainly found that with my original unit, when it was working, the gps signal lock was pretty flakey, and outages could take minutes to recover from - pretty stressful when your following a Tom Tom route and it can't reaquire a signal for ten minutes. Can someone recommend a better GPS unit that's compatible with the Tom Tom software? Many thanks!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I've never had that problem with my TomTom GPS :? I use both old and new units without trouble but the newer GPS is better at keeping a signal. it also turns itself off when not communication for more than ten minutes which helps to save battery.
