Guest astro_nomenoff Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Hi everyone, glad to see there's a specific site for this machine. I've just upgraded from the HP Jornada 820 and I must say I'm impressed. I convert movies to play on the charmer and use pocket TV. I also prefer winampaq to the installed media player - might be removing the unwanted stuff a bit later. The minimise on exit has been a problem, the lack of a task-switcher button on the today screen is a pain - I could quickly locate any running progs on the 820 and immediately shut them down. The smaller screen is not a downer. The quality and backlighting on the new machine is a vast improvement over my old ppc. I have started a thread on the connectivity issues affecting my new moto ht820 headset - I was assured that the charmer was a2dp ready - apparently not!

Guest James Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 ps. for movies, have a look at tcmp player. :)
Guest wills Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 (edited) I use Magic Button on my charmer: http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx And it's free... Edited February 16, 2006 by wills
Guest Pondrew Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Yep, as James says, welcome to the Charmer club! 8) After initial uncertainty about whether the MDA Compact II could replace my cherished MDA III I've become really attached to it. Fantastic form factor, good battery life, best camera in a Windows Mobile device I've ever used and it has got to be as reliable as the MDA III was (and that was at the end of the products life after several rom updates - just think how good the Charmer will be after it's received the same...) I have started a thread on the connectivity issues affecting my new moto ht820 headset - I was assured that the charmer was a2dp ready - apparently not! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pretty certain the Charmer doesn't have a2dp although it's expected in an update within the next couple of months (at least, the update is anticipated from Microsoft and T-Mobile have cited March as the likely date of release for an MDA Compact II update).
Guest kaf Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 (edited) I've become really attached to it. Fantastic form factor, good battery life, I'd totaly agree 110% with this - I know it's not as powerful or as 'reliable' ad my <snip> upgraded XDA2 but the form factor and the battery keeps winning me back Agree James & Wills - try TCPMP for movies - Magicbutton for switching (esp as it only takes 85K) vgsmail is a great little pushmail applet in development too. and theres an omapclock utility that allows you to overclock to ~270MHz The only thing that still annoys me with the Windows Mobile experience is that they take too much messing around to keep them going - they are soooooo useful now as messengers, movie and music players and the opera browser is great - but they allways seem to need something fixing - which I wish microsoft would sort out properly!!! Guest jonajuna Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 hiya all, i too am a proud new owner of this funky little machine. im all agog as its my first PPC only ever having a (boo hiss) palm before and that wasnt connected in anyway, so pointless really other than a diary and calculator. currently surfing the net in search of nice apps and accessories to make it better still. sad to read the lack of current support for wifi sdio, but lets hope the future will sort that one Jon
