Guest BigFatDonkey Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 Hi all I have just got a spv C500 off of ebbay due to my nokia 3650 breaking, hopping its a much more capable toy than my last 1, lol. Can anyone recomend cool games/apps for it please?? Also could I ask whats the maximum size sd card it will take? will it take the 2gb ok? Is it possible to connect my usb key dirctly to the phone for additional storage?? 1 last question about operating systems. Is it possible to upgrade the OS on these?? to maybe windows ce (not sure if thats up, down or even compatable) or windows mobile 5.0?? or would this be somthing that a dealer can do, like updating the firmware on a nokia. Thanks if you can help and sorry if these have all been asked before, im sure they have, im still trying to dig through all of the info on these phones, but theres loads, lol. Rob
Guest rickt Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 I just got my C500 off e-bay a few weeks back and was able to update to the latest ROM version ,de-cert it & Sim un-lock the phone for starters . Since then I have been building up a collection of apps.I have heard it can take a 1gig mini SD card [not sure about the 2gig], I just bought a 512mb card for mine.I dont think you can put another OS on these things though . I'm not into games so I'll give this a miss , but there's lots of software , I bought Repligo a couple of years ago for my SPV [2002] and that works on the C500.theres also a divx movie player called tcpmp [that's good ], theres a fun toy called Noisebox [plays sound effects ] , Smurf is a Bluetooth device finder ,Teksphotos turns your C500 camera into a time lapse camera [program it to take pictures in seconds or hour with date & time stamp ] there is a fun toy called Speaking clock [you've guessed it, it actually tells you the time in an English Lady accent] ...............and lots more .Anyway , you've come to the right place for information and help , you'll find everything you need to know here at modaco . Hope this has helped in some way.
Guest BigFatDonkey Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 Exactly the sort of info I was after, Thx a lot :) Rob
Guest mini_man Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 Hey welcome to the forum for cool apps check out the application forums (free download discussions, games, apps) or the download section cos there are loadss in there. 2gb works fine i head You cannot connect ure usb key to it for storage because it wot would it plug into ? and the phone wouldnt contain the right drivers It is possible to upgrade the rom (firmware), firstly windows ce is actually for pdas and secondly there is a leaked wm5 rom for the c500 which alot of people are using but complain of lack of features and bugs search the forums for hints and clues and also google but do not request the rom as unrealeased rom swapping is not permitted on the forum.
Guest BigFatDonkey Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 Hi and thx for the replys. I was thinking of using this to plug in my usb key : http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=111002 probably being optamistic that wm2003 will recognise it after reading this: http://www.twin-paradox.com/classdrivers.html Rob
Guest mini_man Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 rite i see why you thought it might work but the c500 isnt designed to look for memory stick storage and those drivers are for windows ce (pda os) so you will just have to stick with the memory card
Guest BigFatDonkey Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 ok, thx, you saved me some pennies and a few headaches, lol Rob
Guest adudley Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 hey, I had this phone a while back, you can get a NES emulator (its an old console just incase you dont know) you can get games like Tetris and other gr8 clasics on it. it works perfectly, its amazing really. http://smartphone.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=4149 that should keep u busy for a while!!! lol
Guest adudley Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 oh and 1GB cards work fine, no probs. I got my one from mobymemory.co.uk you get a 5 year warrenty, not many places can say that.. ps I bought the MobyMemory branded one, back when they were £107, oh if only I was a year later, they now go for a snip at £40... Im waiting for 4GB ones, then I'll buy another.
Guest mini_man Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 i may buy a 4gb but i dont think i can wait so ill just buy a 2gb
