Guest kalim Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 (edited) I read several news recently that shows Microsoft smartphones and PDAs are not doing as well AT ALL as the competition. They should put out more ads so people know about how their products compare to these other products. Smartphones: Symbian spanks Microsoft PDAs (Why is HP losing Marketshare?): HP Losing PDA shares Edited February 20, 2006 by kalim
Guest w411y Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 (edited) I read somewhere that it was predicted that Windows Mobiles will have taken over symbian sales by 2010. I agree theres not much advertising but Orange have done a fair bit advertising the C550 and as a result I know quite a few people who got one over the Christmas period. Oh and I bet if hey advertised that they came with MSN then every teenager in the UK would go buy one :) Edited February 20, 2006 by w411y
Guest mini_man Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 but the whole windows media player with hotkeys did wow me, you are so right about msn though i showed my msn mad friend that i was using it at the airport and now shes got one.
Guest kalim Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 I read somewhere that it was predicted that Windows Mobiles will have taken over symbian sales by 2010. 2010? Who's the loser who's making prediction about 4 years from now? What's he basing this "prediction" on? Since Symbian is increasing sales from a much larger base, and increasing FASTER than windows mobiles today, it doesn't take a genius to figure out the absolute number of people with symbian phones will be several orders larger than palm, linux, or windows at any given time in the future.
Guest Socrates Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 (edited) Here in the states, every time I see one of those commercials for iTunes phones it makes me nuts. I almost want to go postal every time someone asks me "is that one of those balckberries" when I'm sending email or making appointments, or "is that one of those iTunes phones" when I'm listening to music. Guest mini_man Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Well Is It :D I know how you feel, whenever im using my phone at school im always asked if thats that new nokia or im using that ipod phone for my music. Im just like does this look like that ipod phone, people seem to get confused when they see headphones coming out a mobile no one seems to understand techonology these days. But the funny ones in the old days were when it didnt matter what game console you bought it would always be another playstation to your mum :)

Guest Pondrew Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Smartphone has only been generally available since 2002 and back then there was no choice of manufacturer, HTC produced the limited range of devices badged under such varied brands as Orange SPV, Qtek and i-mate. The Windows Mobile platform, as it is now named, has come on leaps and bounds since this time. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but I personally don't see a problem with the way the platform is progressing. There was an article about the larger then ever number of hardware vendors including Windows Mobile on their devices in 2006, I'll try and find it as I don't think that article was particularly balanced (to put it mildly)!
Guest Pondrew Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 As promised, a thread started by Paul [MVP], linking to an article on 2006 Windows Mobile hardware vendors, a few weeks back... ,Feb 1 2006, 13:35]I've just come across a very interesting article here at the very well respected 'Mobile Review' website, entitled 'Communicators, smartphones and PDA in 2006 - the forecast'. It makes for very interesting - and in some places controversial - reading, so I suggest you head over and check it out... I've posted a few highlights below too! P ... ...
Guest brykins Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Jumping in with my opinion.....I hate it when people trumpet new stuff without making mention of the fact that Smartphones and PDA's have been doing the same thing for ages. In the UK we have a TV show....The Gadget Show and although it's generally pretty good, but they rave on about things like the RokR music phone ..... "Now you can have your music and your phone on one device"....duh! I've been doing that now for a couple of years! They review portable Archos units and the like and say how remarkable it is to be able to watch movies on the go.....duh! Been doing that for ages now! One week they showed how to back up your contacts from your phone....all this malarky about using a sim-reader or Nokia software and NOT ONE MENTION of being able to sync diary and calendar with Outlook on Smartphones. MS and the like need to get these things out to the press/media more and then people will start to notice them.
Guest w411y Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Agree with brykins on that. I would say its down to not advertising its features. Smartphones can do a lot and people just dont know that. And look how many symbians are on the market compared to Windows Mobiles! Also, you cant get smartphones from mobile retailers such as Carphone Warhouse and The Link etc. If I didn't recieve an MPx200 2 years ago as a hand me down from my mother I dont think Id be a smartphone user, and boy am I glad I am :) :D
Guest mini_man Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 i also agree with brykins i think your refering to the episode where they compared the RokR to some other music player and i was sitting there thinking this is stupid the c550 can do this and it has music buttons and all the stuff the phones in comparrison were doing. Its such an amazing phone and with the right software can really go far, imagine if tcpmp were included and had guides of putting films on your phone. Nokia will soon invent some amazing device that will allow you to play films full screen and everyone will go crazy, the gadget show will exclusive it and we will all be like "weve been doing it for ages" its so ridiculous. All my mates are stunned and amazed at how i watch films and tv shows on my phone and are all now thinking twice about nokias the fact that msn messenger is included makes some ppls mouths drool with jealousy. We need more advertising microsoft!
