Guest mswanson Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 I have a Audiovox 5600 and it has a cingular sim in it. I'll be traveling to Italy for two weeks. What can I do as far as getting my phone to work over there and how would I get service? It would certainly be handy to have any cell over there, but it would be great to have my own. Thank you.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 If you have international roaming available then you just have to turn your phone on and it should automagically find a roaming partners network. You'll be subjected to whatever your network charges for international roaming though (in the UK its horrendous!)
Guest mswanson Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Could I just buy a pre loaded Italy sim?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Yep - it would have its own number and you would have to get your phone sim unlocked if it isnt already :)
Guest mini_man Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 are sim cards in europe all the same or do u need one for each country
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 While SIM cards are physicals the same the world over. Each country/operator will have different SIM cards. I.E. Vodaphone UK and Vodaphone Italy are all part of Vodaphone they are not the same company and a SIM card from one the operators country will not work in the other operators country unless you have an international roaming agreement with your operator. Best option is to SIM unlock the device then look at EBAY for preloaded SIM cards for that country. You can pick them up for next to nothing and while you are in Italy get a phone card from the post office and you can then make international calls for just a few pence per minute.
