Hi, I just got my first windows mobile device couple days ago(the T-Mobile SDA USA which is just the i-Mate SP5m). And I would really like to get rid of all the TM stuff and upgrade the ROM to the regular i-Mate one. I have tried to search thorough this forum and also the spv-developers and i have fairly good idea, but i am still unsure about some things, and I would really appreciate if somebody could help me.

1. I have to unlock the sim lock with the SPVServices

2. I have to AppUnlock the device with the SDA_ApplicationUnlock

3. How do I back up the current status of the device so if something will go wrong I can change it back? and ho can I change it back? I have no clue about this part

4. I got the lastest NRE and WWE from the ftp.imateclub.com

5. I have to somehow change the CID so it will not be operator dependent, how exactly?

6. And finally, how do I flash the rom?

7. Is there any way, how to just store some T-Mobile settings(Like GPRS, SMS center), so that I wont have to enter everything in afterwards?

Thanks a lot for help, I am little bit afraid of flashing the ROM(never done it before), so thats the reason why i need so much help. thanks again:-)

from what I have read the NRE is UK English, and WWE is US English...apparently NRE might run little faster.

Just for warning, the T-Mobile ROM is newer than the available i-mate ROM, so you will actually be downgrading. And on top of that, the only non-changable thing on it is the initial boot screen. All other startup/shutdown logos/sounds and everything else can be customized to fit your needs.

I see no need to downgrade to the i-mate ROM, as the T-Mobile one isn't at all crippled.

NRE is Northern Region English (or some variant). WWE is World Wide English. NRE is smaller. My guess would be less languages

Thanks a lot for the advice, I thought that the T-Mobile Rom would be really messed up. Also, how can I remove some programs that T-Mobile installed? Like My-Email, OzMessenger and others? I am asking this, because phone is giving me an alert that it is running low on storage space...

But in general, how can I back up my current rom so I could it restore it later? I am finally getting my memory card in few days so I can start installing some programs. Is there going to be an option when I am going to install programs to install them on the card or on the phone? thanks a lot for your help!

Don't worry about those. The programs are tiny. Most likely it's due to things like Pocket Outlook attachments as well as Pocket IE Cache. You should look through the pinned threads on how to move as much of that crap over to your Storage Card as possible, because the Pocket IE Cache alone can take up a lot of space.

You should be able to back up the ROM the same way you back up a Typhoon ROM. There's plenty of details on how to do that. Backup/Restore of ROM's is not a beginner task, so read up on it a fair amount before you try it. There's a lot of steps involved. Also, none of your personal data gets backed up with it... only the ROM itself.

I would also like to get a clean ROM on my T-Mobile SDA. I have tried the various tools, followed some instructions, and still cannot get the iMate sp5m ROM to install on my device.

Anyone have any experience with this? I'd appreciate any advice you can give.

Thanks in advance.

What errors are you getting?

I have an SDA running the imate ROM. Did you make sure to fully app unlock the phone AND change the CID?

I couldn't get it to work until I did the SuperCID thing using the SPV-services tool.
