Hi,

Having read various reviews on this smartphone i am still a little unsure of its support for WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) i know it supports WEP.

Could anyone who knows for sure tell me if this smartphone supports WPA - Thank you in advance.

some of the comments i have read are posted below:

"The wifi is excellent and connects automatically with my home network and the one at work. It doesn't support WPA security which is a pity, but does support WEP. I connected it to a Bluetooth GPS device with PocketStreets and it worked instantly - I was really impressed with how simple it was."

"Nice little phone, so far no problems, supports WEP and WPA, clear sounding and beautiful screen. Easy navigation"

" hate it. It feels terrible to hold. And the bluetooth is for headphones only. It cannot be used to sync with your pc. For that, you have to use cable. The wifi is WEP only, no WPA. "

Er, well to the best of my knowledge, both mine, and my sister in law's wireless network next door, are set for WPA.

And both my i-mate sp5's connect to either network fine!

It's because you can only enter a WPA key in ASCII and not HEX, on the phone. I guess the people who couldn't get WPA to work had a hex WPA key configured on their router. If you enter hex digits it will treat them like an ASCII string.

The whole ASCII thing isnt a problem if you can change the key on the router - just use a text string and make it longer for the same security.

(Extended ASCII characters can't generally be typed on basic keyboards, so you only use 7 bits for each letter at the most. Therefore an ASCII key of 6 characters will generally only be as strong as a HEX key of 3 characters. So if you use a text key make sure its nice and long!)
